Some useful OFRM docs I seeked out here on the subject of coding and such. Definitely worth a careful read when you see what exact head unit you have... Seemingly there is a sequence to make it ignore some optional inputs such as G110 and G113. I have not studied it in detail yet.

Looks like correct coding for MY96 head unit would be 4-cyl Zexel RHD - that has no compressor speed signal (G111).

For MY97/98 you can specifically code it as 4 cyl or 6 cyl with or without G111 and there are other territories to choose from - maybe one combination unlocks pin D6 again for vacuum recirc.

Good news is V71 can be fitted to the RHD s2 evap housing Band news, not enough room when put back in car, as john predicted.

I'm going down the micro switch on V71 route for now although I'm going to put D9 and C13 wiring into place so I can swap to the earlier ccu when I find one at the right price. I just wont connect those 2 cables up yet.

No major problems so far, although this is a scary sight !

Managed to get the centre section out and leave the evap housing in, this has made de gassing the A/C unnecessary although the 2 rear clips are likely to be impossible to fit, but I can live with 4 out of 6.

Only small problem so far I have lost the wires that go to the cigarette lighter. Went to use it to power in the CCU on a temporary lead, no problem I thought ill just plug it back in.......can't find the wires anywhere

Anybody know where they run from ?

new matrix and centre section back into tomorrow and the joy of wiring. Paul, John expect some requests for help !

      cheers

Hard part done and A/C still gassed, A4 center section in

Managed to get 5 off the 6 clips back on.

Almost got my head around the wiring. Can anybody tell me whic is conector T10 in the aux relay panel ?

Sorted the micro switch on v71.

T10 is black plug below 324 module. It is clipped alongside T5. Checkout the wiring guide on s2 central for more info and detailed PDF.

            Problems:

Looking at the A4 diagram for this system the pressure switch arrangement is different

C2 is the Low pressure input not C3, which is just fed from x load and there is no High pressure input

I can get the aircon symbol to light up but CCU won't drag D8 (compressor relay drive) or D16 (rad fan relay drive) to ground.

Also the Aircon symbol will stay on when I remove the 12V feed from the C2 input.

I think I'm going to try and source the earlier CCU.

              Are you sure ?

              What schematic you using ?

C2 should be normally closed high pressure switch F118. This opens at sufficiently high pressure to tell CCU to disengage the compressor clutch. Make sure that F73 - the low pressure switch on evaporator housing is closed or the clutch relay is not activated. This may also stop the ccu from starting the fan etc.

If F73 is closed you should get 12V into pin C3.

              By the way - don't mix up that T10 with T10e !!!!!!!!!!!

Hah - just seen that F73 is not used on 97/98 variety - That C3 pin just gets 12V via the X contact so check the wiring for that and ignore F73 reference.

I don't get the high pressure switch on this set up, don't see how the CCU is told to disengage

I have wired it for use with the earlier CCU now, in the process of sorting one out if anybody has 8D0 820 043 H let me know.

One thing I will say it's amazing how much of the old system you can leave in place, very easy to reverse out.

                  cheers

                    • I,m working off the proper diagram Ben sent me. It aint got F118 it's got what looks like a combined unit F129.

Any way by the by non as I have wired it for the earlier CCU just got to track one down now......and put it all back together.

F129 confuses me but you could make the later system work... You have done the trickiest bit with switch on V71 but whatever.

                          • Got your drawing - that is 99 wiring but hey... F118 is one half of you F129 - and other half is the other pressure switch which i cannot remember name of. It's just a packaging thing. I saw on 97 schematics that the two we'd combined but old names preserved... For 99 they introduced F129 confusion. Wonder if open/close pressures of these various flavoured is all the same. For that reason you are better with early A4 system. Needs more research on that. I will print off that diagram and transfer info to my spreadsheet

                            • I still don't see how the CCU is told to cut the compressor drive when pressure switch opens, it just appears to close the fan relay and tell the auto gearbox if you have one
