Bit of a panic last week, all over nothing really... Here's the tale, on the way to work they've been pebble dashing the roads in that 'surface dressing' 20mph skid risk, kiwi rally stage kind of way.... Anyway, the S2 suddenly started squealing like a pig, especially when on lock, anyway, popped the wheel today, and the calliper/stone guard area was full of happily sticky summer tar and stones... So one good rake out and tidy up later, and the squealing has gone.... Bloomin' council bodge jobs....85 WR Urquattro, 85 20vT International liveried RallyRep

Also, as a side note, a while ago I had a smoke issue and feared the worst, it was 'chugging out some soot' blipping the throttle after idle.... Anyway, cleared out the Positive Crankcase Ventilation pipework and its not done it again since. I think the turbo oil seals probably are getting long in the tooth though, and its on the agenda now with a refurbishable one coming over from Andyplym. I'll get it refurbished and fitted up....85 WR Urquattro, 85 20vT International liveried RallyRep

I took the opportunity this morning to do an oil and filter change, even though it wasn't due... There is a method in the madness, as I changed the oil in November with magnatec 10w40, only some 1000 miles ago, but, it's been a bit tappet happy on cold starts of late, much to my dislike. So this morning stripped the undertray off, freed off the sump plug and retightened, then got the old girl hot, added some STP engine flush and left on fast idle for 15mins. Drained, removed filters and then replaced filters and oil with Castrol Edge 10w60. First impressions are favourable, as the tappets fell silent within about 20 seconds of starting and a subsequent start some 4 hours later was silent from the tappets. Tomorrow I'll take it for a proper run, so everything will go through a proper heat cycle, but fingers crossed, it does look like the old girl is once again a happy bunny.

I started it up and shunted out into the road this morning and the tappets are as silent as a church mouse... Its joyous. It gets its run out in about half an hour.85 WR Urquattro, 85 20vT International liveried RallyRep
