      • The exhaust was completely burnt up. And intake doesn't cost that much to leave it hanging. If a rebuild, then a full rebuild.

        • is it a picture flaw I see or the thrust bearings are missing?

Nothing is missing. They are not noticable in the pic.

            • Took off the steering rack today.

Either will give it for repairs or get a new one. It made cracking noises when turning the wheels.

The steering rack cracking noise was the steering rack mount in the left fender cracking. You should have seen that when you removed the rack.

These brackets are spot welded to the body at both ends of the steering rack. There can be fatigue cracking in the brackets or the body. There are new brackets available as:

443-809-489 Updated Left Side Steering Rack Bracket

No Dave, it was not. I have a damaged steering rack. The rack mounting points are fine and dandy.

Okay then. Never heard of a cracked steering rack. Only cracked steering rack mounts.

                      Carry on.

Cracked mounting points are unfortunately a common sickness in the C4 chassis. :/

Was contemplating it, but our local guys say that Febi chains tend to stretch in the first 3k km. A lottery with alternative parts, as usual.
