          I found out the long way that it is better to read than to just look at the pictures (the ones in the 1st post)... I installed the new N75 (3 port, straight swap from OEM) and the car did not run OK, a short bit of boost, and then nothing, fault code on high pressue. so OEM valve back in and all was normal. (as usual with my S2, I spent most of the time having to remove all sorts of other parts to recover fallen bolts) I also noticed that the open path of the valve appeared different that the OEM. so then I re-read this threah and found that I had missed clear advise... twice

          Then remove your current WGFV and see which one of the 3 ports doesn't allow any pressure to go through it when you blow in them. (its the longest one that connects to the MAF - Trubo hose) replace the new valve the same way. So check it for which connection blocks air and connect that to the MAF - Turbo hose. Then the other too the same as the other valve.
          so, to help all others who read the Donald Duck rather than Harry Mulisch, adjusted the pic for the 3port valve:

          [edit: uploaded better pic, read the remainder of the thread to see why]

                Cheers Jamo.

                Does anyone definitively have the correct way it should be?

                  It's as henkjan says, the port on the side is the exhaust port, this is the one you have connected to the turbo but it should actually be connected to the maf hose.

                    So "air in" is the line that goes to the turbo?

                    Just trying to imagine the flow of air and how it all works!

                    Basically i need to swap the MAF and turbo connections.

                    Cheers

                      Thats it

                      air in = turbo line
                      air out = wastegate
                      exhaust = maf hose

                        in the drawing I posted, the numbers correspond to the numbers on the actual valve, the position of the connections is different. on the valve port 3 is the one in the middle (on the same side of the valve as the label is, the port facing the camera in this photo), 1 and 2 are on the sides of the valve

                        so when I look at the numbers on the valve, this:

                        looks correct to me

                              well, I would personally fasten the hose that goes to the turbo a bit better
