Not sure about the half tooth out but I'm not the person to ask. Don't bin your ARP studs. They are 're useable and arguably better than Reinz. Someone will buy them I'm sure.
Thanks! The half "tooth" out is not mentioned in any manual, but i trust the forum members, https://www.s2forum.com/forum/techni...2-timing-marks
No, i wont throw them away, i know the price, have ARP in my Urs4. I can have them just to look at, because they are good looking . But this will be a standard car so the standard head bolts will be just fine.

Started today picking up a new camshaft sensor from one of my spare engines, left home 05.20, after that it was time to go to work. While driving at work i picked up the torq wrench at a company i know well, they helped me with a lot of services as head restoration and block honing/measurment.
After work i went to the garage. Torque the crank bolt while the engine was sitting in the engine stand wasn't easy. Had to wait for my dad to get home so he could hold the engine/stand on the engine stand to get it torqued. After that it went smooth i think. The biggest trouble i recognized when i was about to get the timing right.. I had put the inlet camshaft one tooth wrong on the chain. After i changed that, t it was all good i think. No surprises today, now i'm home with the feeling i have done good today I think i got the timing right, cams alligned 0-0, then anti clockwise 1/2 tooth on the cam sprocket. If anybody have an other opinion pleas tell me. This is what i have found on the forum. Audi Manual doesen't say anyything about this "special" timing, but i trust you guys.

    Torq wrench:

Previous owner bought ARP head studs, no need for that here, i went with original head bolts. Torqued 1st, 40Nm, 2nd 60Nm, 3d 1/2 turn:

Head gasket on, time to put the head on!!:

Timing 1/2 tooth off according to the S2forum, it's right?:

Just had to put some more parts on to see what it looked like. Looks really good

    Garage time..
The cyl head needed a cleanup, so i cleaned it as good as i could. Used a brass brush and gasoline. Not as shiny and new looking as my cyl head on the S4 (wich is blasted) but good enough.
Cleaned all threads and put in some bolts for the EM that were missing. Grinded them on the top like the original ones for better blend in. Then i mounted the EM with new gasket and new copper nuts.
Mounted the water manifold, unsure of the direction of the banjo coupling so i didn't tighten that one. Then i wanted to mount my new cam sprocket, just to realize the Hall sender was split in 2... I have to pick one up tomorrow from one of my spare engines. Will just be a 160km tripp for the sensor, but what do you do!
Then i started to look at the belt pulley/timing gear, cleaned the contact surfaces between the crank/pulley so they are ready to mount. Tomorrow i will rent a torque wrench from a company it's to expensive to buy one for this "one" time bolt
The startup is getting closer and closer

Yes, i have checked. The cylinder head is ADU, i have checked the numbers, and accordingly to them i have ADU-chamshafts. Check the pictures:

Been working away so not much have happend. My new cam sprocket arrived today, so i went to pick it up. Of course as with these parts, especially made for RS2, the price was 200e instead of 50e for the regular I5 engine sprocket.. But now i have the right one Will try to make some things happen with the engine during this weekend.

Some time for the engine today. I wanted to put the oil pan back today, and thats what i did. Sorted out the right bolts, cleaned everything, and assembled the thing. I also double checked the bolts for crank/conrods before i covered i up.
First gasket in place, double checked bolts/nuts:
    45764-d1003fe9604c7313e1a3fde536b28dea.jpg
Oil pickup ready to install with new o-ring, self locking bolts at oilpump end and screws with locking washers on the "legs", also used loctite:
    45764-642aa25d8e1b72e8619a74e1b3796e70.jpg
Oil pickup, oil shield and second gasket installed. Bolts torqued with 10Nm and with oil resistant loctite:
    45764-6668e488962f29da43b1b0d2b34b2da8.jpg

    Oilpan cleaned for the installation:
    45764-ee66914499889f72b68eebf91d0ceffa.jpg
Oilpan mounted on the block! Hopfully for always:
    45764-4967cb12eb95d530ddc4017636615c32.jpg
Did also mount the oil seal at the crank, flywheel side. Mounted some more parts on the intake. Next big step is to mount the head on the block. But i have some external cleaning of it before i will fit it. I also recognized a feew weeks ago that my cam gear is wrong..
The RS2 is supposed to have the cam gear 034109105B, ofcourse mine did have the other one because of some one didn't know better. My wheel is 034109105, that is for the other "AAN,ABY etc. So i ordered one from Audi tradition. Should arrive next week.
It's going slowly forward but i hope i will turn the key in the early summer time =)

Today i had some time in the garage. Started with sorting out all bolts M6, M8, M10 so it's easier to find them when you assemble things. Then it was time for some painting off some brackets that holds the IC and some connector holder on the firewall for ex. I also put some fresh matte black on the intercooler. After painting i started to put a few things on the engine block. It's a good feeling when parts getting back on it's place looking good.

Intercooler waiting to dry after i put some coats of Temadur 20 Black on it:

Engine block with some parts fitted:

Thats all for todays work. Hope you enjoy.
