I suppose you could use shouldered M10 10.9 grade bolts no issue. I used very thick stainless washers with them. Got those a couple of years back on a forum group buy. It's amazing what those 4 little m10 bolts hold up somehow.

This is coming along nicely Dave, great work. What's needed on the engine?

Not much. It was totally overhauled about ten years ago by another forum member and not done many miles since. Just cambelt, water pump etc and I need to pull the clutch and check it's ok. I've already fitted new mounts.

Water pump looks not to bad. It's dated 2010 which is about when the engine was overhauled. The replacement is identical.

Everything stripped and given a good clean.

The cover got cleaned and treated.

                  Then some zinc.

                  Then satin black

The clutch plate is good and has plenty of life. It's dated 2011.

                  The cover is also good.

The flywheel is original and stamped 1985. It's in good order. They don't make them like this anymore.

So after a clean up it all went back together nicely.

I needed a better tool for holding the top pulley secure when torqued up and removal. I got thinking.

Fits perfectly and made from a trolley jack bar and some scrap metal that I had knocking about.

And I made this new heat shield ages ago.

Good to see the proper bushes being used, you'll be guaranteed they'll seat right compared to poly

                        Thanks John.
Having used poly and oe, I do prefer the oe. Much easier to get the subframe aligned as well.

I didn't know some Audi parts were made in England!

It's been rubbing against the back cover. The cover was slightly bent so I fixed that. The marks are probably where someone used something inappropriate to hold it when removing before.

The gearbox and engine are friends re united.

I was waiting for this pulley but it turned up like this.

                                Not very round.

Then I had to mow the blinking grass.

While it was nice and sunny I got a few more bits cleaned and painted.
