I quite like your designated velocity-stack transplant (and agree it will improve the audio with applied pedal!), however a couple of points (that you may already know!):

    a) As any trace of silicone in the intake tract (whether in spray or sealant (apparently even after curing, unless certified sensor-safe) will be picked-up, travel and work to contaminate your o2 sensor, it should all be scrupulously removed prior:

Warning from the SAE back in 1986:
    https://www.s2forum.com/forum/techni...30#post2087630

    b) You may have recognized that an adhesive which cures hard with sufficient strength, and is sand-able / grind-able (such as an epoxy) may be more easily re-finished to the surface quality you seek, if you want to then blend those inner surfaces together smoothly.

    c) Plugging all those extra drilled (warm-air intake!) holes (save for the small original drain IIRC) and re-installation of the foam sealing ring behind the V-stack will restore the original design intent of the headlight bucket air seal; and then allow any ram effect that occurs to accrue and be passed on to better effect. My OEM foam ring was crisp and crumbly, so instead I used a soft black foam toilet to floor seal (no sheet!), cut and trimmed on a tangent from ID to OD, to size and then closed perfectly around the installed neck of the stack.

Question: I've always wondered if the turbo filter-boxes contained a V-stack at their exit into the MAF body. If yours does, if it's not too much trouble, perhaps you could post a photo which showed off its' detail (it may be all black and perhaps hard to capture well) please and thank you.
Huge thank you buddy, i will remove this silicone then and just use the epoxy. .. may have to order more.

    Thank you!

For the record, I think the V stack question has been answered for you. I have an uprated ecu which has its own map sensor so my maf is by passed. If that helps

Chris, I found John's air filter-box photos, please ignore my previous photo request, sorry to trouble you.

John, thanks for pointing those photos out sir and yes, both those boxes have lid-exit V-stacks leading to the MAF housings, very interesting to me.

Right guys!! I need your help!! I have bought the Fluidamper from the states, but apparantly I need to zero balance my engine before I fit this. Is this really needed?
I have a Nurburgring trip in 2 weeks today. I still have to fill with oil , arrange a map, 4wd alighnment, underseal it and replace 2 washers under car gearbox drain plugs.

Is it easy to strip engine and take these things out and get it to a specialist in time?

What do you reckon? and can anyone suggest any specialists please? ... ahh man this has screwed me :/

Or plan C , rebuild oem damper from a workshop in time for the trip.

If I buy another ABY damper, will this be bolt on without the need for balancing? This is another possible option to get to the ring in time.

yes they are interchangeable, aslong as they dont have balancing marks.

The engine is balanced at the factory as a complete unit and all have some balance holes. A damper from another S2 will probably need balancing as well.

Fit the fluid damper and see what happens. If it doesn't vibrate excessively, happy days

Ah man, I am getting conflicting advice here. I have just phoned a machine / balancing shop J and E. Their suggestion is to purchase a second hand unit and fit for the ring and my intention was to run this for the next year / 2 years. They said it would be a lower chance of failure.

My original they said would fail. The new fluidamper he said would need balancing to engine and be very far out he said.
That is his advice. He also said other things can fail also, ie when engines are pushed. Though at least the other damper will be closer to specification.

(I remembered also on the old damper I felt a vibration at a certain rpm that I didn't like, and I would try to quickly pass through it when driving or avoid that part on acceleration through using gears etc.. - perhaps this was the point that the engine doesnt usually like? - I think it was low rpm before the boost. Could that be the part of the engine that usually gets balanced / or harmonised? just a thought on that one....

                            How about this option:
I purchase 2nd hand one... fit fluid.. if fluid vibrates, I fit the 2nd hand one?
Or just 2nd hand one -- even though the balancing is different.
(on looking at mine I have 3 drill holes on mine - so not loads --- the 2nd hand one has 1 drill hole, but at opposite end of the damper compared to mine)

What do you guys think? also what expoeriences do you guys have? are you machine specialists? I need a trust source / answer from a reputable source.

Fit the second hand one. It will be close enough, as all the ABY engines have the same pistons, rods and crank. It's not a perfect solution, but bolt on and easy to do within your timescale.

Ok bingo!! Thank you so very much everyone!! I have just purchased the second hand one.
I phoned MRC Tuning, J and E Engineering (on balancing etc) and with you many great members!

I will install this for the next few years, and hope for the best. I heard also that my s2 will have a dual mass flywheel, being an ABY. So this also would take strain away from this part. (more food for thought).
Fingers crossed I dont get catastrophic failure.

in 1 year / 2 years I will then look at stripping engine out / rebuild in situ and modification upgrade in situ, is the plan.

Thank you all so very much for your help! wish me luck! then I can get it on the road and do meetups etc with you guys again too.
