I assume the plan is paint on top of the gravitex for a green finish to match the top? Thats assuming its even staying green!
Time waits for no man. Unless that man is Chuck Norris.

Yes, and its staying green. Not much activity on the caddy atm as I'm doing shocks, brakes and front arms on my daily B5 Passat.

A little caddy progress at last.

        Back on the axle stands.
I picked up some nice seats at my local breakers yard.

Very slow progress as it's so hot!
I'm doing a hydraulic clutch conversion. The kit came from Rectification. Seems good quality. A little cutting and welding was required.

Now my plan is to re fit the front struts and rear axle so I can get it back as a rolling shell and move it into the garage.

Front struts have been re built with new Meyle shocks, new springs, top mounts and gaiters etc. I put a little gear oil in each tube before the shocks went in and plenty of copper grease on the cap threads.

The paint I did inside the cab came out very well.

I'm using dodo mats to improve sound insulation.

The steering rack is in a sad way. It's getting the Tractor Dave treatment.

The steering column is in together with the DBW throttle pedal.

One of the inner tie rods on the steering rack was seized solid.

No amount of soaking in diesel or penetrating fluid would free it up.
Both of the rubber boots are the culprit.

So new inner tie rod and boots plus a good clean paint and new grease.

I have new control arms. They came without bushes. It wasn't difficult to press them in.

Control arms, rack and brake servo all fitted with nice new nuts and bolts

The hub carriers were blasted and powder coated. They needed some cleaning and prep before the bearings could be pressed in. Sometimes the coating finds its way onto the bearing surface which must be cleaned off.

All the threads got a clean

                    And the bearings pressed in.
                    Don't forget the circlips!

                    And then the hubs

Still turning out good work even in the elevated heat.
Can you share a few details on the drill attachment you used clean up the bores of the hub carriers please, I'd like one of these for myself.

Which one? The wire brush or the sanding drum?

Nothing special. Just a large bore flap sanding drum. Purchased from my local hardware shop. The wire brush attachments are fare more useful and made by German company Lesserman.

Ah okay, I thought it was something maybe more specialised than that. I've always been happy with Lessmann brushes too as they last that bit longer than anything else I've tried in the past.

It's starting to come together now.

Now the rear axle. Can I remember how this all goes together? No chance.

My first attempt was a fail. I noticed that the hole in the long spring wasn't in the middle. When put together, one spring was longer at the front than the other.

A quick message to my friend who is a caddy expert and I was back on track.

It wasn't easy on my own. Boy I was glad when I got the first two bolts in.
