The car is still at the paint shop. I did go there this morning and got a little work done. Baby steps, baby steps........
We cut down the trolley I built by 10 inches. This will make it a easier to paint now that a ladder won't be required.
I pulled the wings from the car and used a riv-nut tool to attach the riv-nuts to the inside of the wing well arch. These facilitate mounting of the front bumper. I also riveted on the small bracket inside the wing at the rear. I left the wings off the car so the shop can weld up the mounting holes for the fender trim and Audi badge, since I won't be needing them.
Not much to report sadly. I keep going over on Saturday mornings to nudge them along. It is working, but it is still very slow.
More next Saturday.

Well, the fact that the RS2 is STILL at the paint shop is about to drive me to drinking, so I have decided to carry on with a few other things. I pulled out some boxes and assembled a few things that I have longed to see together. Tonight I started with the rear upright.
As I was taking these pictures I thought of all the different avenues that these parts took to find themselves on my workbench in Georgia.
The RS2 rear uprights with hubs I brought from Tots back in 2006. They rode in the shipping container with the shell. If you look back through this thread there are some pictures of them before I refinished them......pretty cruddy stuff.
The RS2 rear calipers I spied on a new arrival to Tots back 2007. I rolled under the car to get a closer look. Tobi said that the owner had just replaced them three months before. I said I'll take them. One year later on a return trip I wrapped them in bubble wrap and shoehorned them into a rucksack which I then checked as baggage and hopped on my plane home from Zurich. I worried that they would be lost of scratched the entire flight home, but they arrived just fine.
The RS2 brake caliper brackets/backing plates, splash shields, and associated hardware were sourced by Jonas_R on the forum. I had originally placed an order with Vagparts for these, but the parts were not available at the time and then Vagparts stopped trading after that. Mine was one of the last orders to go out. I do miss them.
Jonas sourced them from a German dealer located just over the Danish border for me. Thanks again Jonas!
The bushings and bearings were sourced here as well as the discs, which I have now confirmed with this mock up that the late Porsche 928 rear disc is the same disc as the RS2 rear.

hey tom,
i remember, there had been some parts.... ;-)
glad to see that the project is still going on. All the different parts you´ve collected definetely need to be assembled soon.
if i were you i´d put the guys at the paintshop under pressure, this can´t be man. For how long the car is standing there with little or nearly no progress?!?
Are there any parts you still need?

Your stuff is here too. I guess I will just bring it with me when I see you this summer.
I did have a serious talk with the painters yesterday. They are telling me that the car will be done by the end of February. I didn't tell them, but if it hasn't been touched by mid-February I'm bringing the car home.
There are a few things that I need to get me out of the paint shop. It's just small stuff like trim and rubber seals. I still can't decide if I want to buy new glass for the hatch or if I want to use what I have. Trouble is getting it here. I'll send you an email with my wish list.Comment

lucky. my state annoys me with this law. they wont get rid of it.
Easy one. Front plates are not required in my state. I've got an early style (pre-EU) plate for the front that reads "IN R-S2" a la the RS2 Frankfurt press kit photos.
The police in my state don't care what is on the front of my car. Photo of my S6 with German registration.....yeah I know my TUV has expired.
