Up until this point I had you down as a craftsman, but the fact that you are going to put your freshly painted RS2 body on that flimsy trolley tells me that you are just mad

A car that size surely needs a much bigger trolley, bolted to the subframe mounts. I would hate to see the body fall off that skinny trolley as it is loaded onto your trailer outside the bodyshop

    Cheers n

    • Si, I said to TAKE it to the painter. The car will be returned with the wheels on. I'll be bolting on the suspension at the paint shop, which is why I have been working so diligently on putting the suspension together. I might be mad, but I'm not THAT mad!

The trolly problems were purely my putting too much wieght on. It really was never intended for a car with it's engine/gearbox/driveshaft/diff installed to be placed on it......just a unibody. My wife demanded it be removed and I just wasn't thinking.

When are you off for paint then Tom? That will be a proper turning point in the project when you can start putting parts on the chassis, fitting the electrics and interior etc. Can't wait to see progress...
To date I have nothing to show except parts on shelves and that is getting old. Don't get me wrong, I've enjoyed traveling, meeting fellow Audi fans, and collecting parts. The thrill of the hunt has been half the fun. I'm headed back to Germany in 3 weeks to view and buy a few more things for the project and I can hardly wait to see what is there. But the fact that I don't have a painted car to put this stuff on is killing me.

On the bright side, I did speak with the painter last Thursday and told him what I needed. He said no problem. As soon as I get a chance I'll pull everything together and take it for paint.

I will finally have a car to work on and not just parts.....a truely a turning point!

Nice one Tom. I think I would've just chopped the car up.
I did that with one of my old cars I couldn't shift from the garage. I set to it with a disc cutter, threw the parts in my van and took it down the local tip.

Well, only to make room on the drive for an RS4 or something.

Anyway. Keep up the good work Tom.

                  • Hi there

                    Nice project.

Is there a logical explanation for why the U.S. never made it legal to import Audi RS2's?? Is it because it too much to compete with Americans own "super" cars??
                    Kind regards

Guess I am too late to ask you for the rear cluster with the lock mechanism

                      • One question - I'm sure its covered here, but in 244 posts I aint got time to trawl it - what did you use for final coat on those hubs shown recently with trial fit to Cup wheels. Guessing its some variation of POR15, but which one - the semigloss finish looks spot on.

The attention to detail here is inspiring - and the sense of comedy with the trolley is quite good too !

                        • Paul, the paint was sourced from a local painter's supply shop. I do not remember the brand, but it was a Rustoleum equivalent. I too was happy with the result. Hopefully it will withstand the test of time.

I saved everything worth saving that wasn't rusted up. The cluster with the lock was broken when I got the car, but I did save the lock complete with push rods, vacuum solenoid, etc. Shoot me a PM.

                            • Hey Wolfi,

Yes, back in the states as of 3pm yesterday. I didn't get home until 7pm due to Customs, Security, baggage claim, rush hour traffic, etc, etc.

John and I hit Neckarsulm Tuesday and then the new Porsche museum. We stayed at a nice family owned hotel outside Stuttgart that evening and the flew home on Wednesday morning.

The all the parts made it through baggage claim unscathed too!
