Looks as good as new. Not being funny here, can I ask what you use the Vaseline for?

On with the re-build of the head now, this was the starting point, a 7A head converted to turbo spec by Spink. Since I’ve had it it’s been cleaned, skimmed, pressure tested, had a mild flow job done, and had the valves re-cut.

                      Everything ready to start

Fist job was to lap all the valves in, god that’s a s***ty job when there’s 20of them!

Then CC all the combustion chambers to make sure they match. All the info I had was that they should be 44cc, well even after a skim they were all over this, I got around 44.8cc average.

034 Valve springs with Titanium retainers, Febi lifters from Custom auto Craft

When I came to fit the washers that go under the springs I had the same problem that Bo had in that they don’t fit, had to open the holes up with a die grinder

The spring retaining washers fit fine though

After reading some of the answers about the mystery part in the sump of the AET engine I’m going to remove the sump and fit a small baffle over the hole to stop oil splash’s getting drawn up into the breather system. As you can see there is already a spare drilled and tapped hole so it should be fairly easy.

                        Looking good Andy

Is the issue with the spring base washers to do with using a converted 7A head then, as IIRC the 7A doesn't use these washers

I don't think so, AFAIK Bo was using a std 3B head. I think the valve guides may have changed over the years and the washer was never updated to suit.

                          Did you get those valves?
