As to 'stalling'... 'surging' was actually the word I was looking for but I had a brain fade - I think its a much hyped situation - the Garretts seem to be fairly resilient to this - I feel it only occurs when 'tuners' completely ignore the compressor map and try to ask for the impossible.
Thanks Anders! Your Avant is an example for me too.
The reason for choosing CT is because of the words of advise I got from Jyrki to upgrade the GT3071R with a CT355 for some more top-end HP, same spool-up RPMs, and last but not least a reason for me to switch from KKK to T3 flanges which would lead to a bit more flow on the exhaust side
Interesting read on that CT. It sounds really promessing. How much more/better flow is there by changing flange?
Id love to try one out myself, but my s2 have been spoiled too much for now
Following this thread with eagle eyes. Good reading and great experience for the forum
Yesterday I found out that the Wagner SS x-member did not line-up with the holes at the front of the chassis. On the drivers side the holes needed to be 1 cm more to the left.
First I thought that there was something not correct with the x-member hole drillings, but after a call with Carsten I got the tip (thanks again Carsten!) to use a rope-spanner (or how you call these things in English) and pull the 2 sides a bit together, while at the same time loosen one engine mount to allow it to move. At the last pull I also killed the tool..... too cheap
As far as I know the car never had a crash, but maybe it is due to wear after 16 year of abuse, hard cornering, etc. At least I solved the issue and now I hope never to remove this x-member again Everything is solid as a rock, also because of the 034ms red polymer snub mount
I had help from my welder to modify the downlipe and fix it with a V-band flange in order to accept my new CT.
Also got rid of the WG flange and closed the hole. It's not the cleanest fix, but I think it works. I will run a seperate WG pipe (a "screamer") and will look into a small damper to make it a bit silent once doing WOT.
Next to that we welded 2 bungs on the turbo hotside. One for EGT and one for backpressure.
The next days I will remove the ABY IM and OEM coils/POS and put in place the 034MS HO coils kit.
Have you got a pic of the 034ms red polymer snub mount?
and here:
You have to place the hard snubmount in hot boiling water to make it softer in order to get it fitted. Btw. In that picture I am not trying to fit the snub mount! Just to clarify. Just hammer it on with a big heavy hammer
Stripped the whole engine down incl crank pulley. I noticed the crank pulley was about to fail as the pin started to crack. My iphone has a bad camera so you have to really look for the hair-crack. Just in time...... pfew. I will put on a stronger one from Jamil
Top tip on the snub mount, I've had a few attempts at fitting mine and always given up I popped it in boiling water this weekend, one swift blow with the hammer and it popped on. Thanks
