  • I'll take pic when I'm back at home.

However I had the same issue and found one needs to remove the tiny metal stop that the cam closes on to, it's an interference fit and can be carefully punched out from the back in situ. If you have a close look you'll see what I mean.

I've got a set of suitable chips coming from Dmitri so hopefully I'll have the car running even better soon.

Must get Noels car MOT'd, then I can get my S2 in and pull it too bit's.

          • Finally found the time to get the clutch changed, fitted the Sachs uprated unit I've had sat on a shelf for nearly a year

I had four thou skimmed off the flywheel, a mate who specialises in balancing components did it for ÂŁ25 and commented upon how true the friction surface is to the the crank shaft mounting surface on the rear. I fitted a new INA (OE) needle bearing, the old one took quite a whack to get it moving but popped out easily enough. I put the new one in my freezer for a couple of hours and it tapped in without to much bother. Refitted it with new blots torqued to 30NM + 90 degrees.

Fitted a new guide sleeve/input shaft seal with new bolts along with a Sachs release bearing.

Shiny new clutch centred on freshly skimmed flywheel.

It looked like a coal mine in before I cleaned it due to the leaking input shaft seal and dust from the dead clutch, should have taken a before pic. On well here it is nice and clean.

Getting into position to start lifting...

Slotted straight on when I got it lined up

            Bolts in, phew!

                  • Cheers chaps, still got a few minor jobs to do and the car is dying for a fresh alignment but I'm chuffed to get this out of the way. It's not as heavy as I expected but importantly doesn't slip, though I'm bedding it in so haven't given it full abuse yet.

I ran Dimitris chips for a couple of K and used them to get the car fault code free as well reset my baseline wastegate spring pressure which I'd neglected to do after fitting the RS2 turbo in place of the Nothelle hybrid, Found them nice and linear with good top end but lacking the low down kick up the backside the Hoffer set gives so swapped back to them and the car runs really well on them all be it a touch rich on WOT. The Hoffer ones suit my driving requirements better and after solely driving my RS for the past month or so I was really surprised by how little lag my S2 has in comparison.

All torqued up and ready to go.

Never got around to posting pics of the ABY battery tray I fitted last year so I snapped a couple today...

Used a section of fuel line roughly the right shape from a 1990 Corrado to make up the supply line to the filter. The staggered 90 degree bend on the return line is a piece of fuel line also from somewhere on a Corrado.

                    • Passed her MOT again today with no advisories. Didn't have to do anything other than change the front brake pads and the tyres all of which were worn down to the limit so needed doing anyway. Went for Uniroyal Rain Sport 3's for the winter for the bargain price of ÂŁ160 for a set of four delivered, never tried them before but their supposed to be great in the wet.

Will be going for fresh alignment next week, which is long overdue.

The Sachs clutch is holding RS2+ power/torque just fine and isn't too heavy by any means, really pleased with it.

Have you given it full power now? You happy it's "bedded in"?

Yes I'm able to floor it again from low rev's without having to worry about the clutch holding, it was torque and the way it's delivered making the clutch slip. The car needs proper alignment now as it reaches silly speeds very quickly. I've gotten it as close as I can after disturbing various things using old school Dunlop gauges so it goes it in a straight line but their no good for precision four wheel alignment.

I don't know how much time it takes to top out in third after changing up from second but it isn't very long at all.

                            • I know that one looks awful but it's only been on there for 18 months, she'll get a new one very soon, I usually renew fuel filters every two years or every second oil change.

It's a Mahle one that I got from my local factors, I'll get a genuine one from TPS as a replacement.

It didn't look anywhere near as rough when I fitted the battery box otherwise I'd have changed it then.

                              • It's really quite upsetting how quickly nice shiny new / re-conditioned parts turn rusty in this country.
