    Let me know!

Back on subject, if you do rebuild the car fully, it'll be better than anything newer you can buy for £10k, as for colour - leave it original (unless you're going bare shell) it just looks naff when you look in the boot, door shuts and engine bay and the colour is different!

      Hi

Will let you know re wings,

The ones on mine are rusty on the edges and probably can be saved, but aren't great.

I have two other sets, both are in good condition, either way I will end up with some spare so will let you know!

As for colour, I will see how far the strip down goes and then see...

        Hi

As you know I like C4s and the 5pot. There is a point where they do cost a lot of money but they will keep going on and on. I have spent a fortune on several c4. My urs4 being one. They are great cars and after crashing in one I do believe the build quality was what saved me. Which I left the car without any injury.

Now to answer the question if I had spare cash like 10k I would buy something else now. Would still be Audi and Quattro.

If you need any parts I still have some kicking about and will be clearing out my shed soon. Old sensors, ecus for control units etc. I might also have a undertray somewhere.

          Cheers Craig,

What would you buy? This is the bit that troubles me, I need something like an A6 estate, but don't want to go down the boring route ideally!!

Can I live with an auto, I am not sure, maybe I am old fashioned!

I have heard from a few people that the new auto gearboxes in performance audis are brilliant they had converted their thinking on the subject, I haven't driven any new autos but maybe a test drive would settle the matter...?

              Hi Duffel,

Keep it, will post a list of items to put on your 'To Do List', but to reassure yourself check later Audis, 'DSG' is cool, but such Audis might still be too dear for the £10k budget?.

              HTH a bit.

Not my fav colour but there is a big spec Audi s4 B5. For 7k that's one idea. Depends if you are wanting performance. Or the b7 s4 lots under 10k just under 350bhp n/a. That's what I would do. Everyone is different. I know after owning a b5 it never felt like the c4 build quality. Not been in much b7s to comment.

If diesel I would go 3.0 tdi Quattro if looking for better mpg.

Seems a shame to abandon after all your enthusiasm?
What is the issue with the car? (in the garage)

You would be better to keep it and plug away at it slowly rather than giving up, spending bit by bit?

My S6 is for sale purely to the lack of use, each time I take it out I think, why sell it, then I spend some more time on it to keep it.

                    41. New standard oem engine and gearbox mounts, not sure if diesel ones with be a slight but non harsh upgrade? Pack out front snubber to reduce up and down movement

                    76. Adjust the drivers door to take the drop out of it

                    77. For others to add to !
                    78. ???
                    79. ???

A fair bit but not as bad as it sounds, but the car would then last a long time without much input apart from normal servicing.

Haven't priced each item from a parts point of view.

What can I say, what a week....

See attached, battlebus is back in service!

It has a boot load of logs in the back (I've been freezing for a fews weeks! lol), and can still put the mockers on a hot hatch. Oh the joy!

                            Hi Duffel,

Make sure you have a computer terminal in your garage, a good camera, ( and a live video link. )

No doubt everyone on here will be pleased to assist in this learning experience.

Research on here or ask before you do anything, and you'll find out how to do it, and be less likely to stray off course, lessening the chance of wasting time, money and effort. BTDT

Open a bank account with a monthly standing order, and see if it can keep up with your expenditure.

Looking forward to future posts, in a good way.

                            Kind regards.

                              Kind regards.
                              Thanks, should be interesting,

I am starting with the front suspension and see how I get on!

Also, planning to do the interior, which I think wont be too bad but time consuming...

Have lots of bits for the car and am planning a respray in volcano black and replacing the rusty wings and door/s

I wont be doing the respray though!!!

Any recommendations for tool essentials/garage equipment?

I have a Halfords tool set and am planning to get something to lift the car, a torque wrench, axle stands, chocks and some scaffolding bar. I have angle grinder etc and a friendly garage that would probably help me with things like pressing out bushes etc if needed.

Is there a proper good manual I can get for these cars, I have Haynes which is obviously no good except for basics and interior, but could do with something better.

I plan to take the front suspension apart, replace all the bushes and do some rust protection including maybe fitting the bilstein suspension kit.

If I haven't killed myself or the car by then I will try the rear!

Not sure this is going to end well but I have to try!

these are what you should have

                                a full set of 3/8'' drive (5mm - 20mm)
                                a full set of 1/2'' drive (8mm - 35mm)
                                various extensions for both sizes
                                breaker bars

things like sway bar mounts need two sockets, one to hold the bolt and one to undo the nut, this is where you need two sets.

full set of open ender and ring spanners is good from 10mm - 24mm..

an impact driver and a good compressor to run it

i think most of this stuff is a must have for people

you'll need a 6+ft breaker bar (i used a big 8ft piece of ally pipe) when putting the lca back onto the strut

plus its handy to have since you can just put it over the end of a ratchet and then you have monster turning force
