You can replace all the coils and the POS units with TFSI coils and a loom from Error404. This will cost much less than replacing the OEM coils and it gets rid of the POS units which tend to fail

Right, so basically the TFSI system is simpler? How much normally something like this cost?

US $350 complete, plug and play 20 minutes. Downside = no more 20V Turbo plate over the coils.

Superb, thanks mate. I think this is the way to go (only best for my baby ) Won't happen till summer though, as University comes first, just gathering information atm, so when it comes to spending money, I can do it as fast as possible

$350 + all the tax and what not, so will probably work out much more expensive, but thanks!

What's different, why wouldn't the 20v Turbo plate fit?

Would it fit if I choose the wiring from error404?

Actually "best" = all new OEM components, i.e. the 2 Power Output Stages, five new coils and five new coil to plug boots (if not included with the new coils). To do this over here (NAmerica), it would cost in the order of $950. Upside = likely to last for at least 100K km. The TFSI/V8 coilpacks do fail but they are relatively inexpensive.

Worth mentioning that the TFSI coils need less dwell than the stock ones, this means they get hot if running on a stock map, they still last ages though but it's best to leave the coil cover off or vent it. If you get a basic remap from PRJ he will adjust the dwell on the coils in the chipset so they run cooler My Avant is running this setup and is really nice and smooth

Thanks for the info mate. I was thinking of doing remap next year, but I'll see how the whole resto goes, and If I can afford, might do remap at the end of summer So after remap, can I put the cover back on?

Still a good idea to vent it, I think I'm going to stand mine off on some spacers, has to be said the red coils look nice though
