I'd need to recheck the part shapes but the car is with Four Rings for the next few weeks so opportunities are going to be limited, unfortunately.

I heard back from the carbon fibre guy and he's not going to be able to help with the fuel tank bit unfortunately but might be able to help with the duct if we can supply him with a part to use as a form. Does anyone have such a part...?

        Good luck with your project!

May i suggest you have a look at this post from Saltinot from his fantastic thread RS2America here in the forum.

        http://www.s2forum.com/forum/showpos...&postcount=813

Seems like you're missing the inside headlights trims (RS2 specific)

Also as per the specific headlights black trims the center part of the cross member behind the grill was originally painted in matt black so that it's less visible trough the grill.

Common mistake from the guy in the body shop when doing a RS2 front

Now that is interesting. I might see if I can get it added to the list of stuff that needs doing.

Speaking of which I had a lengthy conversation with Dean at Four Rings at lunchtime today. First all, he's already proved worthy of trust in his ethical approach to customers. In the conversation I had, it felt like he had my interests as a customer at heart.

Secondly, the bad news. The front was a little worse than I thought. The reason for some of the wheel issues and steering wheel being out of alignment was the subframe was only loosely bolted onto the car and the wishbone bushings are completely shot. Dean said the car should NEVER have been given an MOT before I purchased it based on this alone. The CV joint needs replacing also.

However it gets worse, brakes are not just 'slightly corroded' as stated on the MOT, they're corroded beyond safe use. So he's recommended wholesale replacement of all disks and pads which is going to sting a bit financially but I did make an allowance for repairs before I purchased the car. As they're replacing the brakes, they'll take a look at the calipers also to ensure whether the binding is part of the corrosion problem.

The cause of the front and rear wiper issues is suspected to be a relay and possibly one of the switches. The fuel lines are also not 'slightly' corroded, they're very corroded and will need replacing although OEM lines are apparently either extortionate or NLA so hand crafting a set out of appropriate materials may be the next alternative.

The central locking issue apparently is not a problem with the system but rather with the remote. He suggests that if I took it into any security/hifi place, it would be more cost effective to replace the entire alarm system than to repair the existing one.

Other bits of trim he can sort out more or less although the ceiling switch is apparently NLA so I am going to have to source one from somewhere.

Likewise he says on the underside of the car there are a lot of bolted on components that are showing signs of corrosion such as the exhaust box. Stuff that can be fixed but isn't as urgent as getting the car road worthy again.

Regarding the fuel lines someone on here used 8mm copper tubing with stainless steel compression fittings. Although kunifer is highly recommended.

Really? Wouldn't there be a risk of galvanic corrosion if ferrous and non ferrous metals come into contact?

Thanks - looks like the guy did a neat job. I'm still curious about the risk of galvanic corrosion though, especially with salt on the roads.

                    OK update time:

The wishbone bushings have been replaced along with the front disks and pads. Dean is having issues sourcing a set of rear disks however, his usual sources of supply are coming up dry. He's also cleaning and lubricating as he goes.

He has also sourced an ashtray and thanks to a friendly Ebayer and S2 fan, MarkMidge, I have a few replacement Audi 80 trim bits on the way also to Dean. The steering cowl with the hifi control holes is going to be replaced and apparently he's sourced those headlight surrounds (which were apparently an RS2 specific item but the parts numbers match with the 2.6 Avant he's breaking currently)! Have yet to find a ceiling switch though, Mark doesn't have any in black. I also took delivery of a new OEM retractable boot cover yesterday from VRS in Northants.

I'm talking to Carbon Designs on here about CF fuel tank straps but I don't have any information on the dimensions. Can anyone help? Also, does anyone have pictures of the intact intercooler duct and plastic underside panelling? I'm thinking about commissioning in CF also if the cost isn't too high. May be worth a group purchase if others are seeking the same.

I also plugged the Pioneer head into a power supply and I think its going to look pretty awesome. It's a very minimalist design and its possible to select the backlight and display colour in blue to match the rest of the car interior. Have yet to settle on speakers as I'm tempted to take the car into a audio specialist. The real ****** though is the lack of audio/audi specialists even remotely close to where I live in SE London. It's like being stuck in a desert!

Dean is working on the car himself and will be looking at the electrical issues next, I'm missing the car though. Can't wait for it to be sorted enough for a trip I'm planning up to the Peak District in late May/early June.

For rusted fuel lines, they can be replaced with Eaton nylon lines, found at any good hydraulic shop. They use compression fittings also.HTH.

Yes, there's been mention of nylon alternatives on here previously. l expect dean to discuss options just before he starts working on them.

Dean called Pagid and apparently they don't have any rear disks in stock so I pulled the trigger on Golfboy66GTi's ebay link (thanks again!)

Despite not really working on cars older than 1998, he's found a complete set of RS2 workshop manuals and my car tends to get worked on by him in the evenings because it's something he's really enjoying. Nice to know its in good hands! I've put him onto Pete at Quattro Corner for other bits and pieces.

He tried fixing the rear brake lights this week and it took a lot of time because there is a ground in the car electrics between the light and the engine loom somewhere behind the dash. He'll avoid taking the dash off if he can.

Quick thought today...I was wondering whether someone with access to these NLA underside trim parts might be near another member with access to a 3d scanner...I could investigate 3d printing.
