Off to retrieve the Audi today. The coachworks found that the previous mechanic had used the wrong bolts on the wishbones and they were on the verge of coming off the car when I dropped it off last week. Also the front subframe came loose again because it hadn't been tightened up with car off the lift. The chassis has been straightened but the front subframe needs replacing as it's kinked.

Got the car back and discovered someone had also pranged the back bumper while in the care of the coachworks. FFS, will I ever win with this car...?!Comment

PM'd!
Unfortunately it's going to take a whole Saturday to get the car to Luton and get back on the train. Also, with the subframe working itself loose all the time with every traffic signal and speed bump, it would probably be safer to travel somewhere closer to get the subframe replaced.Comment

Car comes back from coachworks and they couldn't set the drivers side wheel straight. Despite pulling the front end 12 mm forward and installing a new front sub frame, the wheel is still 10mm out.
I'm incredibly disappointed...not with them though, they waived the bill - bless them.
What are my options?Comment

That's pretty weird - sorry to hear you're having issues getting the front end straightened.
Having messed with the front suspension on mine this past couple of weeks, it looks like you're most likely looking at a messed up subframe or bent wishbone. Having accidentally bent a pressed rear wishbone out of shape on mine, I know how easy that can be. Now replaced with forged items. But from a quick skim, you replaced the subframe and the wishbone is pretty recent?
If you still need fuel lines, and want OEM, I have a set of new ones in the garage I might be willing to part with. Will be more expensive than getting a new set made up those, but PM if you want to discuss.AUDI - saving Dad's from minivans since 1994

Yeah the subframe was replaced and so were both forged wishbones. Definitely not something that is bolted on.

With a new subframe and wishbones the only thing thats left is the little bit of adjustment you get between the subframe and the chassis rails.
If they cannot get enough adjustment then it might be worth looking at the rail and elonggating the subframe bolt holes slightly to get that adjustment. Or using subframe bushes with offset holes to correct the problem.Comment

I had the car on a more local jig - the only one in Greater London. This place does a lot of Italian cars and taxis.Comment
