Yes I know - I don't use the car for commuting so I can live with low MPG - it needs to do 150 miles to a tank for one fo the runs up North though - maybe need a jerry can or 2 in the back!

Mihnea - Would it be worthwhile mapping the car using an Octane booster - I already use Optimax but if using Octane booster will help the cause I will start using Millers Octane booster in every tank.

      Is Doug's turbine's impeller #8 or #9?
If you run 1.7 @ 7k rpm it sounds to me you'll hit easily the 450 Hp !!

      What about pinging?
My car experiences some knock already at 1.7 bar boost with 98 Ron fuel, expecially between 2800-4000 rpm. I partially got rid of this problem unwinding the spring you gave me to the maximum possible. Still pulls hard, but boost comes in a little more softly.

May need to slightly reduce advance in the transition rpm when consistent boost starts to build up?

audiman i think its definatley overfueling . looking at your mods they are v. similar to mine and i get about 18 mpg and i dont hang about. hope that helps.

          Marco,

Knock won't be an issue as I'll be able to map the timing advance in order to make sure no knocking is happening, but of course, with a turbo pushing so much air through the cylinders, the maximum timing advance will be around 20 degrees less than on a tuned RS2 at WOT or thereabouts, as I've BTDT with Mark last time too....

          Cheers,

But no, really, i will have some of that Mihnea 1.9 bar sounds good to me. Need to chat to you about the tuning on mine, just so i can describe what is happening at what speeds. Has some massive flat spots, and think it is overfuelling, its doing about 12 mpg. It is also hard to drive at low speed. Think i had that boost leak when it was last mapped!

Doug, you will have that to look forward to. Those injectors will make your car drink fuel faster than i can drink pints!!
Lol, well, it could be that you had a boost leak last time m8, we'll check that again on yours and we'll correct it, but the problem was that last time I've had to increase the fuelling at full throttle in order to keep the EGTs low....

Yeah, Mihnea, I know you can do that. I meant if I should look for reduced ignition timing in my setup.

P.S. you didn't tell me if Doug has a #8 or #9 turbine wheel.

                    Mihnea,

Got VAG-COM on the car tonight.

Before I started the car - ignition on
The engine speed sensor fault code(didn't take a note) AND
00537 - Oxygen Sensor Regulation 11-10 Control Limit Not Reached - Intermittant

Cleared the code and started the car, waited for it to warm up, revved it.
                    NO FAULT CODES

Took for a drive and it wouldn't go over 5 psi boost (didn't try WOT)
Got home and same fault code appeared - 00537

WGFV was connected all through this.

Doug, yeah, I think it's kind of normal, the lambda regulation must be going mad now trying to regulate something that's totally outside of its possibilities.... don't worry, you won't get any codes anymore when we're done with it, and we'll be able to know it instantly as I intend to run VAG-COM connected permanently to your ECU...

BTW, do you happen to have a car 12>240V converter? I bought a 300W one but burnt it, I dunno how actually but it's shorted between + and ground at its 12v input... :-( I'll try to get myself a car adapter that does 12>20v DC but I'm not sure if it will run properly with my damn laptop...

                      Cheers,

I thought the 5 psi was a bit low if it is just mechanical boost.

Should I disconnect the WGFV just to be safe?

I do have a 12v to 240 inverter - 300W continous, 1000W surge. I'll bring it along. I use it for my laptop as it's battery is shagged.

                          Great Doug,

Mine was a 300w but first off it used to eat the dashboard fuses (30 amp instead of stock 15) and then it started eating its own fuse without even working, so I've tested the 12v input for continuity and it went "beeep"...

Oh well, thanks for that, please don't forget it, otherwise we'll be limited to about 1.5 hours of battery.... and 2 hours recharge...

5psi is strange, try to pressurize the intake to make sure it's leak free!

Did you read my post re: toluene?

OK - it lives in my laptop bag anyway - and I'll bring that.

I'll do a few tests - probably be Saturday now - I'm sure it was going upto 10psi at the weekend - and that is getting close the 0.8bar mechanical boost.

Did you read my post re: toluene?
Yeah - don't have a clue where to get it though - and I thought that Millers octane booster gave more than 0.3 Octane increase per bottle per tank - I thought it was 3 Octane?

I will look into Toluene but no promises. I know some people that use it (not for cars!!) so am not sure what quantities I could get. Pretty nasty stuff but then again, so is regular uhnleaded if you look into it! Thinking about it, there is no way that I am going to drive around the M25 with 100 litres of Toluene in the trunk...that's suicidal.

Millers takes you to more than 0.3 octane per bottle. I have got loads of millers in the garage as I can get in in bulk at trade prices. If I don;t get toluene then mine will get remapped on Optimax plus 2x Millers Octane Plus in the tank. I'll run with that after the remap anyway. Roll on, I only have one more week to wait before the magic is done! Only a custom K24 remap for me but hopefully we can see how good my filter and Milltek really is. I have had really crap rollings road figures up until now. 200bhp at the wheels was consistent but losses from 40 to 80bhp are a bit dubious. I don;t care what the final figure is but I know that the car will be a lot quicker than it is now...and that's the crucial bit!
