  • Can running the older spec oils like API SL cause problems with late model petrol engines? Say like with TFSI's? Problems like shortening the life of the cat converters or something similar like that, maybe expensive to fix later?

    Comment

    • Hi

Yes, with very sensitive cats. Some can be really fussy, like some of the Fiat 500s need a low ash oil, normally only required for low emissions diesels.

      Cheers

      • Hello
        I have a s2 aby with 4-500 hp
        I use it daily
Its spirit to wot type driving
        I have access to q8 f1 10w50 or mobil 1 5w50
        Both at a great price
        Wich one would you use
        Or maybe a 3 option?

        • Hi

I don't deal with Q8, so I can't really comment on their oil, but the Mobil is decent stuff.

The best option would be a 10w-50 ester based oil, like Fuchs Pro S or Millers CFS.

          Cheers

No, realistically I don't think it will get to you in time.

              • Thx anyways
Wil try the 10/50 from q8
And then later get the fuchs or millers from you
At least then they are both 10/50
                Thx a lot
                Great service

                • Is the 5w50 fuchs titan supersyn any good?

                  • It's okay, but their Supersyn is one of their more basic synthetics.

                    Cheers

It's a good oil, if you can get it for a good price, use it.

                        Cheers

                        • What oil do you recommend to use with e85 fuel? Have been using Gulf competition 5w-40. Engine bearings have been like new, but two turbos has failed.

                          • Hi

I would stick with a good oil like the Gulf Competition, but what sort of power is the car making and how often are you changing the oil?

                            Cheers

                            • Two summers with 600+hp @2.5-3bar boost. Quite a lot of abuse on street, track and drag, oil used maybe 2000-4000km before change. Turbo failing can also be an oil feed problem due an4 linings...

But, your saying Gulf Competition is good to use with e85(ethanol) fuel?

                              • Hi

I would have thought with that sort of power and use, a 10w-50 might be a better option, but that depends on the oil temp.

The Gulf is a really good oil and fine with E85 (as much as anything is), the issue with E85 is that it can cause fuel dilution, but changing at 2-4000km should mean that isn't an issue.

                                Cheers
