  • Hy Oilman,

I like to order a new oil thermostat but i can choose 2 temperatures. A 215F/101celsius or 185F/85celsius. I use your Miller Nanodrive 10W50 oil. Which one would i use for my 700hp avant?

    • Your ideally looking to keep the oil at an optimum bulk temp of 100degc, as long as the 101celcius one does not cause the oil to over cool it could be a goer.

      • @v6quattro, do you have problems with your oil not getting up to temp?

I've heard people say s2's have a thermostat fitted but I've never seen this confirmed.

My oil rarely gets to 100c.

Yes i did have problems with the oil temp. Its not getting on temperature as before on the highway. I have a big mocal cooler fitted but never had problems before.

I'm 100% sure the S2 has a oil thermostat. I took it apart to see but i looks fine. But the low oil temps are still an issue so i like to try the Improved Racing thermostat.

            • Hi

There are always different offers happening, it's worth keeping an eye on the current offers section of our site. Not sure what offers are planned.

              http://www.opieoils.co.uk/t-Current-Offer.aspx

I would use this in the gearbox.

              http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-976-fuch...ssion-oil.aspx

Assuming it doesn't have a LSD, the diff needs a 75w-90 GL5 oil.

              http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-673-75w-...ion-fluid.aspx

The Fuchs Syn 5, Millers CRX, Redline 75w-90 GL5, Motul Gear 300 and Gulf Competition are ideal for the diff. The Fuchs Sintopoid, Castrol Syntrax Longlife, Millers TRX, Motul Motylgear, Mobil SHC and Gulf Syngear are also good choices.

              Cheers

                  • Hi Oilman,

                    I drive a 1995 audi rs2 often rather spiritedly.
I have been using penrite enviro+ fully synthetic oils but they have a 10 tenths racing oil that is actually slightly cheaper and i am wondering if it is as good or better?

Hope the numbers in these links mean more to you than me

                    Thanks

                    • For your car, the ten tenths makes sense as it's an ester based performance oil. The Enviro+ is aimed at modern low emissions cars, so more suitable for the Audi TFSi and new diesels than your car.

                      Cheers

                      • Hi Tim,

I notice you have the deal for "Gulf Formula GVX 5w-30 fully synthetic engine oil for VW / BMW / Mercedes-Oil and Filter Service Pack: 6L + UFI oil filter". I'm running a more or less stock S2 ABY lump, chipped but no MAP change in the ECU, powerflow airfilter, and it's all in a totally different body that is somewhat lighter and more aerodynamic . I don't generally see anything above 95 degrees for the oil temperature (but I am measuring it in the side of the block not the normal location). Do you think this is a suitable choice or should I go to 5w 40 or 50. At present I have 5w-60.

                        Ta mucho!!

                        • Hi Tim

I would probably go for a 5w-40 as it's an older engine with larger tolerances than the newer VW engines that use oils like the GVX.

                          http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-656-5w-40.aspx

Out of those, the best ones are the Fuchs/Silkolene Pro S, Millers CFS/CFS NT, Motul Sport/300V, Red Line and Gulf Competition. The Motul 8100 X-Cess, Millers XF Longlife, Fuchs GT1 XTL/Supersyn, Gulf Formula G/ULE, Shell Helix and Mobil Super 3000 are good, cheaper alternatives.

                          Cheers

                              • I'd like to have more specialist opinion for what to put in my 2.2turbo.. Currently there's 5W40 oils and I'm about to do an oil change this weekend.
We still have -5degC weather in here and normally oil temperature gauge shows just about 70degrees. I think I'm going to buy Castrol Magnatec 5w-40 which I have used in my previous cars but would there be any better options?
