HX40 Super does ~670/7xx with same spool.

If what you say is true then I'm sorry to say that you probably ruined a perfectly nice turbo and paid a whole bunch to downgrade it as well. All you needed was the 0.63ar rather than the 0.82 and you could have a much better response at the expense of a bit of a surge on higher gears when pulling hard from low revs.

To get a urge very well designed billet wheel of a GTX and fit a 7 blade billet which you can pick up from eBay is no improvement.

I hope you actually have the facts wrong on this one. Besides more than 4000 rpm lag on the 3071 is likely that other factors have played in as well.
I appreciate the input on this, but like I said the results I experienced were from real life experience. I ran the GTX setup for a couple of months, and went through the whole mapping process (which included pressure testing the whole boost system to 2 bar - leak free). As I mentioned I'm sure the GTX cold side could have made great horsepower, but I didn't want a street car that I had to change down 2 gears to hit some boost.

That's why I decided to speak to a professional (albeit too late really). Craig at TDI explained to me exactly why I was experiencing the tremendous lag, and he was not surprised at all that I was experiencing this from a GTX. You're right in saying that a .63 turbine housing would have helped, and in future I may go down this road to further improve response. However, the difference now with 7 blade wheel and comp housing is night and day. Plus I always have the GTX wheel and comp housing here to sell/ use in future for whatever reason.

I'm not slating GTX turbos or any other Garrett variants. I just wanted to give a little input to the original poster on my experiences.

If I were to build it again I'd go with an MD357 from Turbo Dynamics

yes please more them so we can compare .Don't forget boost also depends not only from turbo .Pistons compression ratio, inlet and exhaust manifolds, head flow, cams and event intercooler with piping

Water and oil cooled turbo has my attention. When the engine is built, I'll be obliged to look into k26 flanged alternative to RS2, just to satisfy my OCD of course.

Holset is not some aftermarket turbo, this are made for trucks for milion miles. GTX is for race.

Either the material is ********- or the knowledge. I would say, in some cases both is ********.
So you are saying Holset hasn't been on the market for long, and they can't make a reliable turbo..?

Yes,that why every day I drive allroad 2.7biturbo manual with k03 turbos mapped to 1bar .My S2 is just for fun and for race. With new engine full boost maybe will be around 6000rpm but when limitter 10000 rpm not to bed

Either the material is...let´s name it sub-optimal- or the knowledge. I would say, in some cases both is...well- sub-optimal ;-)

@ Biturbo believe me, for a car that is meant for daily driving that is VERY slow. You guys think that someone wanting a 500 hp car is only for drag racing where you are going to run for 10-13 seconds all in the proper rev range. Try driving this car in traffic or some spirited roads... to be above 4000 rpm all the time to wale the car up is a tough work never mind the engine stress. Or try to overtake someone in 6th gear on the motorway while you are cruising at 3200rpm and 75mph. In that car. You have to drop one or 2 gears every time otherwise a standard s2 will have long gone by the time you do.

That is the problem I had with my hx40super
