I think it did, but I was on my own so it's possible something moved in the process.

I mean I won't say that chopstick method wad accurate. But the weird mark on the flywheel is for TDC I'm 100% sure so that's what I'll be using.

When you found TDC with the chopstick (measuring the same drop clockwise and anticlockwise) did it agree with the mark on the flywheel or was it different?

How confident are you that the chopstick method was done accurately?

Have you checked the marks on the cams yet?

While my advices re the lambda was on the mark this time, I wish my advices were as good for my own cars.

Interested to hear your feedback after you get back from Leeds.

I know I sound like a whiney pain, but I think you're underestimating the significance of running a second rate hose and expecting perfection. These cars are hard enough to get to run right when you think you have everything in good condition.

    Regards.

I'm at my brothers now so he will have to help me set it perfectly

    I'll buy it eventually.

Don't you joke about slipping OK?

MAF hose is on my list but first she needs to run properly. Slight vacuum wouldnt affect it this much.

When I put timing using flywheel mark temperature was just under 88 degrees whereas now it's around 92 degrees and also, flywheel must be more accurate than lower pulley surely.

Fuel economy has improved and it feels quicker too now, so I will set timing again before I head back to Leeds

    Glad it worked out.

Maybe wait a few days / journeys for the ECU to 'relearn' itself.

I'd say time of the fylwheel mark as your bottom pulley's keyway is probably fractured and has slipped it's position slightly.

    Sorry just kidding.

Run it for a few days, tbh, but that duct taped hose is not a good idea if you wan the car to run 100% 100% of the time. You have to help it to help you.

I appreciate a silicone one is best, but the dearer option. Even a tired oem one as a stop gap may be better option than the current duck tape. Just sayin.........

It has 3 wires. But I'm taking back what I said, it has improved, I removed battery to nester ECU. But it still isn't 100% which takes me back to timing.

Atm it's set by a chopstick in first cylinder. Should I set it again but use the flywheel mark and ignore lower pulley mark?

    Buy a Bosch one.

I bought NGK as I never had any issues with them. I really hope this is the culprit and I can have a fully working S4 for once.

Just unplugged lambda on my way home and didn't notice any change in the way car drives, might be running even slightly better. So I guess lambda it is.

They're about £100 I'll leave it for now and get it running properly (as properly as I can). I have duck taped it pretty well so it won't have massive effect on performance.
