    UR Quattro Set Up?

Chaps I have been asked to get a partially restored UR running well. In short I am assured it starts but isn't happy revving up. I intend to start to by setting up the mixture and the ignition timing check for vac/boost leaks etc.
I have no experience of the B3 engines with the exception of a KV engine which I had a similar job on.
Can anyone give me a step by step or pointers. eg mixture figures and ignition timing figures etc. I cant find any information strangely. I believe the CO is to be set between 0.6 to 1.2 % with the lambda unplugged and up stream of the cat. So I assume there will be a sampling pipe on the manifold. I have also read about having plug a fuse into the ECU relay?? Although I could be miles off.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated. I have experience of the CIS systems to some degree. Thanks in advance Steven.

Hello John, not sure on age but it's a WR engine so i assume an early model.

Ok same as my 85 version then

Down side is there are no diagnostics, no lambda sensor and no cat (later MB/ RR versions had these ).

Unless its been changed there is no take off on the exhaust.

The ecu / fuse thing sounds like the way to run the fuel pump to check pump flow.

Diagnostics is no harder than any other Kjetronic equipped car, but few oddities (make sure its has the correct plugs in, and the correct rotor arm).

Also check WOT switch and wiring connections on throttle switch, seen that couple fo times.

The late great Phil Payne's site gave a good diagnostic breakdown on this. His site went down, but another owner has hosted it, I'm sure he won't mind me sharing.

Hope this is of some use

        John

Thank you John, I will have a read for the CO2 and ignition timing figures. My experience of K jet is mostly mk2 golfs but never had one beat me, yet. thanks again

Does anyone know what degree btdc the ignition timing should be set at? I can't seem to find any thing. Is it case of setting static timing and the Ecu does the adjustments? Thanks in advance

I sold my Ur (WR) close to 5 years ago, but from memory there were 2 flywheel sensors- one for Ignition timing, and the other for the rev counter, the Ecu does the rest. As John says- the correct rotor is imperative as its got a far wider tip to account for the ecu adjusting the timing, and altho a non-turbo rotor will fit and run, once the ecu starts making it's adjustments, the spark may not jump the gap to the dist cap.

              Just a thought.....

ps, don't want to patronise, but the ecu is in the drivers' side kick panel

Time it on the marks, the ECU sorts it out

Turn the engine until the "0" on the flywheel is half visible through the window on the bell housing to get TDC, then align the mark on the rotor arm with the line on dizi housing. Im sure it's all on phils site.

I'm happy with static timing I just wondered if ignition timing needed dialling in. I'll report back when hopefully she is purring happily

Jesus christ if you are having to ask this many basic questions then you shouldn't be anywhere near an ur quattro.
Tell the owner that they should take it somewhere that knows the basics.
If you can't read and understand Phil Payne's website which says everything you actually need to set an ur then you should not be anywhere near an ur

Don't give a rats ***, you are playing with someone's pride and joy. If you can't be arsed to do the basic homework on a WR then you should not be allowed anywhere near one.
Get it wrong and you mess up a good car for someone.

Do your homework, read up on each variant and learn the differences..... You are not going to learn a thing asking about an ur here. Totally different to an S2.

Jesus I thought this forum was full of helpful mature people. In several years of being on the forum I have never had an off remark. Nor have I given one. I am happy to work on the vehicle and was doing the homework. We learn by asking questions and putting what we learn into practice. Not by some condescending keyboard warrior having a rant. I'll sign off from this thread I think. To the others thank you.
