  • Just a few quick updates.
Wheels and Subframes came back from the sandblaster. Fantastic job, now like new.
Brake seals finally arrived from autodoc and all fitted. Now car ready.
Final welding in engine bay all done. Just needs painting now.
Gave the dif and gearbox a scrub. Oil change for both on the jobs list. Ordered new sump plugs for them both tonight.
Ordered subframe bushes, diff mounts and wishbone bushes front and rear from Albert at AK Motorsport. Hopefully will come next week.

Good news on the engine! It's within tolerance and will not need a re-bore. Hurray

        • Yep. Three of yours and one from Dan. Your good one is going to be the spare. I just need to choose some good tyres now. Any recommendations?

          • Goodyear Asymmetrics

Or mid priced Nexen NFera or Uniroyal Rainsports.

I have the Nexens on my Avant

On the 16” rims you can go up a size from stock. Looks better. 225 instead of 215?

                • Got 225’s
I went for Pirelli’s as the place I get my tyres from had a good deal. The spare is also a Pirelli so they all match.

Finally got the engine bay sprayed

Needs lacquer. Hopefully do that tomorrow if it’s dry enough.

                  • One step forward, two steps back

Whilst refurbing the drive shafts I came across a problem. One of the rear outer CV joints would not separate. No matter what I tried. I also noticed that the internal threads were damaged so I needed to remove it.
I had to resort to drastic action Never done it like this before, but it worked!

                    • Then I noticed that two hex screws on the end of the Dif flange had been cut and were seized. No messing about this time. Welder and impact gun. Job done.

                      • My dif and gearbox oil arrived yesterday. Filled the Dif, then noticed a small leak from the rubber boot on the lock mechanism. My fault, as I had replaced the metal boot clamp for a new one (which I think is too wide). I will have to get a new one!
I torqued the fill and drain plug to 40nm. Is this correct as It didn't feel too tight to me?

                        • Quite pleased with the finish on the paint in the engine bay. For a novice, I thought it was not too bad. I'm entrusting the respray of the rest of car to a professional!

                            • No updates for a while as I have been busy under the car stripping the under seal. What a horrible job!
I found very little rust, which is good.
Only two small holes, both in the rear inner wings. Both welded up. I just need to do the final coat of under seal then I can start on making up the brake lines.
Has anyone got a plan of the brake lines for the Avant? That would be a great help!

While I was waiting for the mastic to cure, I made a start on the electrics.
They were in a right state. Scotch connectors, block connectors under the ignition and evidence of short circuit at the alarm.
Pulled it all out and currently making good the wires that had been damaged.

                              • Received a lovely set of new bushes (from Error 404)for the inside side of my steering rods. I had to drill out the old bushes and the new ones popped in easily.

It’s been a long slog but I might actually start putting bits back on the car soon!
