Bought the pipe and made my own using the old ones as a template. It's in the thread way back.

                • Another frustrating day in the garage.
                  My Beru coil packs arrived.

You can see the difference in length compared to the older version.
Put them on the car but still no start.
Checked over the wiring (again) and noticed this.

The insulation is a bit proud. Trimmed it back and re installed but still wouldn’t start.
So, put the old set up back on.

                  And still wouldn’t start.
So, replaced the coil pack conversion again and tried another set of plugs. Spluttering a bit but still wouldn’t start.
Now I’m scratching my head and trying to remember what else I did since the engine last ran. Fitted the radio but that’s about it. I’m going to have to get the guy over with vagcom.

Time for a beer me thinks.

Yes. I eliminated that by refitting the old coils and the problem is still there.

                      • I've just been checking back and got the petrol last November. They say the new stuff with ethanol content doesn't last very long. Could be that? It was the expensive Shell stuff

                        • Alright Dave. You can get a code reader from a few places but your need the cable also. Worth spending a few hundred quid save you a lot of pain. Yes I'm aware it's beer money but cheaper than a man to come over I guess. Good luck chap. Regards Lynn

                          • I doubt its the fuel. My car fired up first time recently on 30 month old fuel. Bit lumpy but ran fine.
Forgive me if you've already said, did you check the fuel pump relay is activating and & fuel pump is delivering fuel and you have pressure at the fuel rail?

                            • That fuel isnt that old. my s2 was in storage for a year and a half. When i went to pick it up, as a precaution i put a jerry can of fresh fuel in, an she fired up fine.

Yes, fuel pump is new and working fine. After cranking the plugs are very wet with petrol. I have a good spark at each coil pack. It just seems to flood immediately every time. Injectors were cleaned and apparently working fine. The new plugs do seem to have a large gap. I will check that tomorrow.
