  • Thanks! Putting the door handle back over the newly thicker leather was a difficult job, the rest smooth sailing.

I’m curious how your door boards are turning out. I’ve seen multiple examples on the Dutch Audi forum, and most professional jobs were looking very good.

I was thinking about putting it all in a vacuum bag to get the fabric to stick well around the edges. Maybe im over thinking it..
I struggled with this when I did mine. I ended up cheating and fitted leather piping into the groove around the fabric to hold the fabric in place. Obviously not standard but looked pretty good.

      • After several weeks/hours spent and advertises put online, i finally found myself the missing pieces of the original carbon trim pieces. A pleasant guy here in Sweden offered me a deal to change interior trims with me. wooden trims for carbon trims (with money between) so he could get going with his house restoration. A well fitted working tripp to Stockholm and i could meet up with him at his place and exchanged trims and 2 hours of Audi talk He owns a red S2 Avant in original condition, with some RS2 parts fitted. Engine wise it's original, wich is not so common in Sweden these days.
A day before my tripp to him he told me that he found 4 door cards in stock condition, same setup as my current door cards in the RS2, besides that the rears have holes for the window crank. Black/leather and no holes for speakers in the front. Jackpot for me. So now i think i will rebuild the current door cards i have with blue alcantara/repair the damage of speakers and keep these i bought stock. I hope i can repair the rear door cards hole for the window crank at a specialist. Otherwise i will use my stock ones.

Carbon trims, a complete set for LHD with double airbag. F* finally, can't tell how much i have been wanting/missing these There is just one small crack on the drivers side trim that i will have to live with, otherwise they are all 100%:

Door cards before cleaning, they have been stored in a dusty basement:

Door cards after three hours of cleaning:

Now i think i next step is to repair the rear door cards hole fore the window crank. Then i will focus on the alcantara bit for my future door cards ( will use my current ones for this project).

It sits tight so far. But I think they all will suffer of getting loose sooner or later, dont you think?

Yes, I think so, they all do at some point. This fake leather seems to hold up a bit longer compared to the more fabric style upholstery you find in the normal Audi 80’s of the era. Mine was completely gone, however it only became a problem once a corner came loose.
I’d remove and clean them (and the door card itself) and met a professional put new foam behind the leather and glue it, now that they are out of the car anyway.

You might want to disassemble all the window switches too and replace the resistors (original ones have a too low value to get more light of the old LED’s) and LED’s for new high brightness red ones. I made a guide for that on the Dutch AudiForum.

                  • Hi! I have been a little bit busy with car parts. The rear extra door cards is at a company to fill up the holes for the window crank. The guy said the repair will be hard to see. Well, lets see how they turn out.
Today i started dissasemble my current door cards that i will put the Koblat blue alcantara on and repair the holes for the front door speakers. I want the original look.

I used a soldering pen to get the plastic welds out for the front cover on the door cards. Went quite easy without to much damage. I think they will be easy to glue back on (glue on the "weld taps").
Cleaned one front door today, turned out good i think. Now it's just the rest to do
Used a stiff root brush to get the loose foam off, plastic scraper and glue solvent.
I think i will put some plastic, glued on the back of the holes for the speakers and then just use some material to fill the gap, so the fabric will be smooth over the hole.
I hope the guys/women that made the speaker installation is proud of their work, nice huh?

                    • Hello. Wouldn’t it be a bit more easier to take some random door cards without those holes with large pocket and then start the job? Just friendly tip, also I think I can help with that, should have some lying around for cheap money.

Sure, easier. But not that much work to fill up the holes as the fabric will cover the "repair". Glued on some plastic on the back side of the panels today. Then i think I will use some insulation tape to get it level with the front surface.
All 4 door cards is cleaned from foam and old glue. So far 11 hours spendt on the door cards.
Spoke to a specialist of car interiors yesterday, he will help me fit the alcantara parts. So now im a little bit less nerveous about my project

                        • Rear doors back from the interior shop. He managed to fix the holes for the window crank beautifuly i think. Could not be more pleased. He also fixed my ashtray and extra gauge panel. Looking a bit sad before, with some marks and stuff. Yesterday i left the door cards that was on the RS2 (now cleaned and fixed holes for the speakers, in the front ones) at the interior shop. He took the job to fit new alcantara on the door cards and also to put new fabric on the door pockets where the speakers were before. So now it's just a waiting game for me until i get them back, hopefully looking 100% good.

                          My fixed spare door cards:

                              • Started to get in to the stereo electrics and speaker connections. As it was, some one put in an amplifier in the luggage (wich i throw out the day i got the car home) since then only my speakers in the dashboard worked I found a connection scheme at S2central for the stereo. Im going to use the standard cables and speaker locations. The ones who installed the aftermarket speakers/stuff left the original cable connections almost unharmed. I have started to throw out the cables they put in the car. Today i started to figure out the power cables to the new stereo, a Blaupunkt Bremen SQR 46 DAB. The ISO connector was almost right, i just had to relocate the power ( constant 12V+ from T8b/7 to T8b/4) to get it to work correct with the powersupply. Speaker wise they use 2 different connectors for front/rear speakers. One 8-pol connector for the front and one 10-pol for the rears. As the front speakers only use 4 connections on the 8-pole connector, i moved the rear speaker connections to the 8-pol iso connector. My new radio only have 2 Iso connectors. One for power supply and one for speakers. A little fiddling, but now it is fixed. The original connector was a little short to reach the stereo, so i made a adapter from the old stereo.
Now im waiting for my door cards to get back so i can mount speakers and trims.
