Looks like it needs a fair amount of work on the underside. I had a sneaky look the the MOT history and there is an advisory about rust on the underside but seeing as it's a 25+ year old motor there is no real surprise. It looks like the value of the S6's are on the up. Only one I could find for sale recently was a saloon back in 2021 with 122K on the clock https://collectingcars.com/for-sale/...quattro-saloon that sold for £6.6K So it would be interesting to see how much more or less the Avant is worth?

You must be looking at a similar 5K repair bill as the S2. Seeing as the cats are missing, needs a clutch, all the bushes are shot, and it all looks a bit crusty underneath. The question is it a keeper or a breaker? As the potential repair of the car could be quite high v the final value.

I think you are spot on there but the body has a few issues as well
It's far too good to break. I couldn't do that.
Clutch, cambelt, service, fuel lines, brakes and bushes and it's a useable classic with patina

This was our S2 dilemma, spend-fest underneath… We were clearly not going to let the car go under with that.

So, is it a genuine S6 plus (326bhp V8) Or is it a normal S6 with plus specs?

I don't think we got the v8 in the UK. As Ian says, 5 pot aan.

Yeah we never got that lovely V8 version in the UK, the S6+ over here was a stock S6 with all the nice bits like the seats etc.

I agree, too rare and potentially valuable in future to break, unless it's got some serious rust issues.

Dave, as no one seems interested in my shell your very welcome to come cut any underside repair sections you require out FOC.

Thanks Kit. So far it look like just surface rust. What's your middle and back box like? And do you have a good nearside clear front indicator? I might need to have a spin up to see you soon

The exhaust off that 30V has surface rust but is very solid otherwise and from what I can see of yours in the pic that shows the missing cat's very similar or the possibly the same as yours, it's one piece from the cats back.

Will have to see what I've got indicator wise, not too hopeful though as everything got broken on the front of mine when I crashed it and I seem to recall the car I purchased for scrap value to fix it had orange one's. But that's just going from memory so I could have some or one I'm unaware of, I'm still finding interesting stuff in the attic of my workshop all the time.

Any views on front brakes? I can't find much about upgrades. I have the type with four little pads. Anyone know if you can do a 996 conversion easily? I actually have some epytec RS2 style brackets here. Plenty on Quattroworld but USA cars came with different calipers apparently

Front end is pretty much stripped ready to drop the gearbox and do the clutch.

You'll have that box out in no time, if your doing it by yourself make sure the box is well balanced on the gearbox jack, the six speed box is bloody heavy!

There is a spot where the crown of the jack sits really nicely, but still be ready for a lot of weight, if you chuck a ratchet strap over it then it can stay on the jack, no need to put it on the floor.

That's good to hear, much easier and safer with two of you. The five speeds aren't so bad, I can (could) manage to lift one of those out and back in by myself, no chance with the six speed, way too heavy.

HP2 brakes are pretty good IMO, I don’t see much benefit fitting 996 callipers, completely different lug design anyway, yes US cars had G60’s I believe.
