After painting the brakes went back in the oven to cure.

I got new piston and seal kits from brakes International. They were £25 each which isn’t too bad. Quality seems good.

I’ve not done calipers like these before. Quite a fiddle but all came together in the end.

I’ve got a crank seal and rocker cover gasket to fit tomorrow.

And the splash guard has just started to break up

Looks like I got there just in time.

That engine looks very neglected. Are you looking to drop the sump to check the pickup is clean.

As above that engine looks like it hasn't had it's oil changed very often at all. Obviously bin the splash guard and checking the the oil pick up wouldn't be a bad idea at all. Then run it lightly with something like VAG 10W-40 oil and a tin or two of engine flush for a couple of 100 miles before dropping that and putting fresh oil in.

              Good plan I think.

My thoughts exactly. I was going to run some semi synthetic as a cleaning oil for a few miles as you say then add the expensive stuff.

                  Everything got a deep clean.

No sign of the corner off the splash guard unfortunately.

Put back together with RTV for belt and braces insurance.

And one of Chefs bottom pulleys arrived. A thing of beauty.

That looks much better, the corner off the splash guard will most likely be in the sump if you can't find it in the head, more reason to remove it and give that and the oil pick up a good clean. As you probably know even when you drop the oil a certain amount stays in there and that'll be the really grotty stuff. It is a bit of hassle and you'll require two sump gaskets due to the windage tray which is an unwanted extra cost but it'll be worth it for the peace of mind, I bet it's pretty filthy in there given how much carbon there was on the rocker cover.

Before I put my S2 back on the road I pulled the sump to give it a deep clean and there was a fair amount of crud in there, though the head had been off not long before I purchased the car and that always means crap falls in there when cleaning the mating surface of the block. There's a few internal webs in there that'll hold old oil no matter what you do.

The big boys toys only come out for this job.

                      All looking fine.

The crank seal was the job from hell. Last one I did came out in 5 minutes. This one took nearly two hours.

Well that's a good job done, I like the extra leverage set up, have you got a torque wrench that does 450NM or is that bit of alloy poll on a breaker bar? It's kinda hard to tell from the photo. I notice your using an axle stand to support the knuckle of whatever it is your using,

Took mine out years ago after I heard stories of them crumbling into the engine ?

Yes, I read the same recently. I must pull the one out of the Avant. It was good when I did the engine but that was in 2018. How time flies

Yes. It's a Tenge 450nm monster. When I was younger I'm sure I wouldn't have needed the extension

Don't think so, last year changed my front discs with Brembo a new set i already had and bought a set of either Brembo or ATE pads from a motor factor Leicester way. I asked him "Are you sure these are for the C4 S6 and not S8 etc?" Words to that effect as there are a few options. The pads came without the weights at least the outers did just looked and they've been perfect.

Doing a cracking job there as usual and very satisfying for you and us UrS6 owners to watch.

Somebody mentioned values earlier, i posted about a car that sold with low mileage on a N reg so a 95 and not a run out model. It had desirable options including Boleros and sold for £15k.The seller was in contact with me a lot and could have sold it for more to higher offers but is a gentleman a well known Audi guy and stayed true to the first buyer. The secret , under his instruction, £5k was spent as it had been sitting for a while, recommissioning,.....belts fluids etc a few bits and pieces exhaust and a pro detail inside and out. It was a beautiful car. https://www.s2forum.com/forum/member...e/2100422-urs6
