I've got a copy of that, as you say very handy even for quattro models, V6's and 20VT cars, which it doesn't cover in full. I'd like to get the Bently manual for C4's but it comes in multiple parts all of which are very, very expensive.

Helped me out no end a couple of times stripping that 30V.

£2.83 delivered is super cheap, the postage must have nearly cost that!

For the last few days I have been getting up super early (4.30am) and getting a few hours work in before it gets too hot.
Now, I thought the S6 would be easier to work on than and S2 because of all the space you get when you fold out the rad……….. but I was wrong.
Who’s bright idea was it to put the water pump under part of the pas pump mount?

Now this car has been living in borrowed time for not one but three reasons!
Three of the spark plugs were finger tight. I mean finger as in completely loose!
You can see the carbon build up here.

Second reason. Cambelt has started to split.

And third and most serious, god knows how the engine survived this. The bottom pulley crank bolt was loose!!!!

The crank locking tool works better than the ABY one.

But it doesn’t lock the pulley at TDC?
              Strange.
Top belt cover has been damaged after not being fitted properly.
              Anyone have a good spare?

              Don’t laugh. It works!

Before I knackered my elbow again I was doing much the same as you, getting up at 05.00, stopping at about 11.30 then hiding until about 18.00 before doing a couple more hours in the evening, I thinks that's how they cope in place's like Spain and Portugal.

That's quite a catalog of seriously bad maintenance!

The plugs are kinda forgivable as new ones can work loose if not checked, I always torque them down once, then back them off before finally tightening them, that flattens the crush washer and as a rule prevents loosening due to heat cycles.

How it's survived the bottom pulley being loose is beyond me... Divine intervention maybe. Does make me question if 450NM is really necessary, perhaps it was some sort of in joke between the design engineers. I encountered one on an C3 100 that was no more than 80 NM and had been like that for a very long time, I undid it by accident while working out what combination of tools I needed to do the job.

That PAS pump bracket would really piss me off, what a load of hassle to do a simple job!

If the crank locking tool is for Diesels then it won't lock a petrol engine in the correct timing position, for some reason the location lug in bottom pulley is in a completely different place. I discovered this myself when I first tried using my home made tool for S2's etc on a T4, it'll still do the job but it's a bit more hassle.

Something else that was about to fail.

These two hoses have been changed before. Looks like they used just standard cheap water hose. They are not Audi hoses. They were both very close to failing.

Everything cleaned up and ready for new parts. I’ve ordered Samco hoses from Merlin Motorsport. The thinner long turbo coolant hose is 9.5 ID and the short hose from the thermostat housing is 19mm. These are both nla from Audi.

I made a start on the front brakes. They are very rusty.
I spent an hour or so cleaning with the wire wheel after taking apart. Then, a little experiment. One side went in Bilt de rust solution.

And the other in the side went into the electrolysis tub. We will see which wins.
I have new pistons and seals coming from Brakes International who I have used a few times before.

Now. Calling you Urs4/6 owners. Brake pads. I have ordered a set and they came without the little counter weight and spring pieces that are on two of the original pads. Have I got the wrong set?

                        Electrolysis is the clear winner.

I suspected it might be. A fun little test none the less.

Maybe if I had a small water heater in the Bilt solution it would have done better. I've been using the electrolysis method for a while now and it does a brilliant job on calipers.

I like the use of electrolysis on calipers, good thinking!

Had a quick scan for a bolt, so far no joy, the long ones I put to one side are all around 150mm long with thread just on the ends so they'd be no good even if cut down. I do have a lot more fixings to rummage through though, will see what I can come up with.

All nice and clean. De greased and given 5 mins in the oven to dry quickly.

Then some Bilt and ready for vht caliper paint.
