It's back in
Been a long day sorting the last few things out, including discovering a nasty coolant leak on a return line from the turbo. Just happened to be removing the aircon compressor in readiness for James' replacement and saw something drip. The small rubber hose from the hardline was soaked and the jubilee had somehow failed. Anyway all sorted now.
Took a good bit of wiggling to get the engine and box aligned but we got there in the end.
Still tons to do but on the final straight now ahead of the Ring trip

Wow, looking really good David! Wish I was able to make the Ring trip myself, not this year now for me I think.Comment

You betcha
huge thanks to Peter for giving up a sunday to give me a massive hand getting the car back towards being ready for the road again....
So the engine went back in end of Saturday afternoon, engine was looking tidy ahead of the reunion with the bellhousing

Also cleaned/vacuumed and painted up the main rad and the intercooler - the amount of rubbish and grit which came out was amazing!

Peter arrived at midday and we started on getting some of the engine bay bits sorted, hooking up the sensors and getting the downpipe and wastegate pipes reconnected (easier than it sounds...)
We then set about changing the front top mounts and drop links, quick comparisson of the old and new blues...old one was off the drivers side looking pretty sorry for itself:

Usual problems with siezed bolts though the angle grinder made light work on the drop link

2/2:
Did the rears top mounts too and then set about trying to get the diff flanges off the replacement diff which i managed to round off. Managed to get the passenger side off which was relatively easy

Whole contents of the diff bar a couple of gear rings came out the other side after releasing the bolts on the casing

smacked a 12mm socket onto the soft hex head and finally a bit of swearing and a couple of roasted knuckles it let go

believe me, it don't smell good in there
The diff gears looked like new inside, no obvious wear anywhere. On a roll we started trying to get the knackered one off the car, but quickly fading light, p**sing rain and 2 driveshalf and one prop cv definately didn't want to let go of the diff, so we called it a day.
Next Sunday, replace the diff and maybe the prop, change the belts in the final push and this project will be........complete
Cheers again Peter, same time next weekend

Yup it will be, have a good go at getting the diff out and whilst its out maybe have a go swapping the prop over, I don't mind working under the car to get it off
(may regret saying that) still the hard part is mostly over just gotta work out best way to remove the driveshafts now the bolts are all out then just drop it down swap the bits over and put it back up then put the front end back on.
Progress was good, all of the top mounts was not too hard to do, rears was very easy I thought, still hopefully next sunday should get a lot more done, i'll come down earlier to have a start.Comment
