    registering

Easy. Toss a valid VIN plate from a US spec 90 Sedan in the windsheild and go to the BMV. They check the VIN and the title paperwork match and see "4S" for 4 door sedan and they will issue some plates for it and your done. Or, list it as a full resortoration build from parts imported and get a new Title and VIN issued from the BMV. Tom has the documentation from all the parts he has had imported plus this electronic documention here on the S2 Forum. He should not have a problem.

Yeah that's the way I was thinking... Just sucks I didn't want to tag a real RS2 But I guess that the price you gotta pay to own one in the states

Me too. I have thought many times that I should get the kit to replate some old hardware. I've bagged and tagged all the old hardware that I have replaced with new hardware and there is nothing wrong with it except that it isn't perfect. I would like to use the old hardware on my other projects that do not have such a high standard as the RS2.

        I have been considering THIS.

Anyone have experience with replating old hardware?

Good eye! The nut in question has been removed and placed in the "steering rack bracket hardware" bag.

Tom I have been looking at a plating kit too, I really wanted to do mil-spec Cad plating on all my parts, but its controlled stuff and quite toxic I believe, so been looking at zinc instead. Coupled to a small bead blaster, a decent plating kit would be awesome for restoration work.

The Eastwood one doesn't look like it has much with it. Have a look at the list at the bottom of this page it gives you quite a list of what is supplied with this UK kit, I'm sure there will be a supplier stateside offering a similarly complete set-up like this
            Panthero Coupé quattro 20vt
            Indigo ABY coupé
            Imola B6 S4 Avant

I completed my front axle refurb a few weeks back and have just now gotten around to posting the details. The joints were removed, dissembled, inspected for wear, degreased, and rebuilt. A cleaned and reassembled inner joint below.

              The new boot kits.
              443 498 201 B - inner boot kit
              441 498 203 A - outer boot kit

Boots, clamps, grease, bags of inner CV hex socket bolts for the to bolt the inner CV to the gearbox and a new axle bolt for the outers.

A quality set of CV boot clamp pliers makes quick work of tightening the clamps on ce the boot is in place.

              one done......

              The completed axle.

I would love to have taken a bunch of pictures of the disassembly but when you're up to your elbows in nasty CV grease you really do not want to be reaching for your camera.

Thanks Ian. I hated that we couldn't connect this past July. Let's try again next year.

Bouncing from the axles to the sill covers (Seitenschwellen)...... I mounted the sill covers a couple years ago using the mounting hardware just inside the door and never attached the covers underneath due to the fact that I wanted to replace all of the plastic rings in the underside with new parts. Those with RS2 and S2 avants should be familiar with these little things. The rings mount in the underbody and the sealing cap, as Audi call them, snap into the rings and hold the sill cover in place.

Only a few of my rings were in still there when I bought the body and the ones that were there were looking ratty so I attempted to order a set of replacements using part number 8A0 854 955. NLA of course. I cross referenced the number....RS2 and S2 avant. So I tried crossing the sealing cap......RS2, S2 avant and S4 (B5). Hmmmm I thought, if the cover is the same the ring might just be the same or similar part and might be usable on my RS2.

Well I ordered a couple of the B5 S4 rings (8D0 854 955 B 01C) and they are indeed the same part with a different part number. A perfect fit on the RS2. Done.

B5 S4 part on the left and original RS2, what is left of it, on the right.

I'm not going to use these on my project, but I wanted to include this info in my thread for the curious.

These are the all red version found on North American B3 sedans. This version includes a side marker light that is powered by a lead from the main bulb holder.

These lights are a direct replacement for european B3 sedans as well as B4 avants i.e. RS2, S2 avant, 80 avant.

                      part numbers:
                      893 945 217 A left
                      893 945 218 A right

The back side with showing the pig tail wiring for the side marker light.

Comparo with the e-code spec lens on my RS2 project.

If I had an avant I'd definately get those USA rear lights.

but probably not up to your impeccable standards

Thank you. I shouldn't have too much problem getting it registered here in Georgia.

I was just in Zwolle last year.

And you found a loophole to get it registered? Or just a legal way?
