Stefan, you are correct the vacuum tank (part number 8A0 820 601) is not a special US part. However the question was about the black plastic covers on the Motorhaube/bonnet/hood. One of them can be seen in the same picture with the vacuum tank.

It does still appear that these can be found on car outside the US. I love the fact that we're able to figure this stuff out via the forum.

Parts are starting to trickle in again. Got a box containing the remaining rear lights. The same box contained some much needed hardware to tidy up my engine. The first chance I had I ran out to the garage and mounted up the lights. I used 3M Window Weld butyl tape to get the job done. The 3M sealant comes in 10mm diameter which is what Audi specifies for this application and is the same material that was used at the factory.

Light with the sealant applied. It's sticky stuff. I gave a ball of it to my 4 year old......in no time he had it stuck all over his fingers. Some mineral spirits makes clean up easy.

A close up of the work.

Installed! Finally got those empty areas filled with lights. That was really starting to bug me.

Another picture......my helper can also be seen in this one.

I had problems with rear lights not working, took a look and all the bulb retainers were rusted up.
Took me a while to find out I was missing the gaskets round light covers, hence water ingress.

I used the same stuff Salti, but it came in a tub, which meant I had to roll it out myself.

      Easy enough, very pliable stuff.

      Car's looking great.

Thanx Tom for the "how to" on the brake ducts. I've lost 1 set, and damaged another, so now running without them.
If I do venture out to get another set, will be sure to use your guide.
Build is coming along very very nicely

I always wondered where the "other" name for it came from. I also refer to dumdum as "the mechanic's best friend" due to the fact that I use it for all sorts of things. First use to mind is to hold a nut in a socket or screw on the end of a driver just long enough to get it threaded on without dropping it down a hole.

Wurth also sells the sealing stuff in a roll, used it many many times with great results.

Mounted up the washer reservoir this afternoon and wanted to finish up my dealings under the left front wing, but ran into a stumbling block.

Does anyone know how this "securing pin" is supposed to secure the hydraulic fluid reservoir to the body? I can't seem to figure this one out. A picture would be really nice.

The 431129668A securing pin has been used in Audis apparently as far back as 1977. Here it is in use to hold down an air cleaner box on an Audi 100 diesel. Seems to go through a grommet (attached to the air box) and then into a clip (via a washer). Presumably there is a 90 degree turn once the clip has, well, er, "penetrated" the clip, and that locks things together. There must be some kind of receiver slot in the RS2 reservoir that performs the function of the clip. The pin is also used on the CQs and presumably S2s so somebody should be able to help you better.

The OE build was using Teroson product, it's basically a butyl extruded strip.

Also for fitting screws a dot of superglue can hold a screw on the end to allow location too.

Tom: Why don't you show us a photo of a back side of the reservoir? Based on the first diagram below, I would say Item 29 is mislabled. Looks more like it should be a 431129669 grommet (like Item 16 in the second diagram), into which part of the reservoir fits, not the 431129668A securing pin.

Tom I fixed the very same reservoir on Pamela Cabbie sometime ago, but I can't remember of anything like that in the parts I used.

I think that is the windscreen washer fluid reservoir, not the power steering hydraulic fluid reservoir that Tom is looking for.

I think its a part system error, never seen that part myself when i had the reservoir out, it is also possible that its off an early reservoir from a CQ or 3B. For an ABY/ADU i am almost certain it just had x2 10mm bolts and a stud that sat into a rubber grommet on the wing.

It may however be part of the bomb mounting, i remember there is some odd plastic clip that sits over the top of it.

P.S. Found a pic of one i removed before, looks like just a grommet in there.

I agree that it is probably a parts system error. Your photo matches what Kate tells us visually. She just got the PN wrong, i.e. not 431129668A but something like431129669.

Kate shows a grommet, not a pin:
