From the point where it passes through the body as seen in the picture it does a 180 and runs around the back side of the strut mount. It then travels along the top of the firewall to a check valve. From there the line is that wonderful fabric covered rubber vacuum line that we all know and love which runs to a solenoid that controls the flap.

On cars with automatic climate control the vacuum tank provides vaccum for fresh air flap operation.

That explains why i have never seen one, you learn something new every day

Tom is that come kind of plastic trim on the bonnet hinge? Never seen those before, is that another RS2 specific part?

HAHA. I have been waiting for someone outside the US to spot those in that picture. I am not going to keep them on the car because they were never used on the RS2. It's a US market only piece.

My 3B coupe has them, are you sure the RS2 doesn't?

I should have checked with my mates in the UK before making the assumption that it was a US part. The number is not valid in the German parts catalog so I assumed that included the UK.

I haven't noticed them on RS2 in Germany. Anyone in Germany seen them?

This is a part who has every car with Cruise Control. The actually Part Number ist 8A0 820 601. You can find it in every Part Catalog. Also in the Germa. Nothing Special for US.
