    You're correct "they should"
    That it's assuming....
And in my humble opinion if someone wants to organize a proper historical register the path to follow it's the one after the absolute certainty.

The rest it's folklore, like the RS2 Sedan that was in use by Ferdinand Piech, about this I had confirmed by Audi Tradition that it was a legend or a fairy tale.

We (or should say I?) went already trough that weird VIN number that was supposed by you Dave to be a pre-production RS2 with Audi Tradition but we did'nt get any info back did we?

Also assuming that the Limos/Sedan had an WAU instead of WAC vin it's again out of the proper path IMHO.
We need to open the bonnet/hood of that RS2 Sedan and take a picture of the VIN tag then we can talk, can we?

Dave you should put that in your "things to do" the next time you catch a plane to Ingolstadt, ("assuming" you can get to open the hood...) perhaps together with a visit to a retired guy that was in charge of the RS2 project on the Porsche side... and another retired guy from the Audi side....

Then I'm pretty sure we could shed some proper light on the RS2 issue.

No. That was just a scratch and the damage was just buffed out.

I believe they used 40 grit to do the buffing.

(Sorry. It was just there for the making and I have no will power )

Congratulations there Tom. That is definitely a milestone.

Not competing but the youtube video of the 94 S4 V8 6 spd avant that I bought has been viewed over 130,000 times. I know that I never imagined owning a car with a) its own youtube video and b) a video with that many hits.

If you haven't already, you should think about doing a video that strings together all of the photos of this project starting from the off-loading of the container to the final starting driving of the RS2 down your driveway. Perhaps the sound track could be "Eye of the Tiger" (the theme song from the movie "Rocky")

                  Congrats again.

Tom, just tape off and spray that area with some flat black plasti-dip. That way if it ever gets dirty or wears out, you can just peel it up and the original paint is underneath, and you can just re-shoot it.

Looks amazing and so happy that the motor is in!

The car is so nice, I'd look into this stuff to protect the front end from rock chips. Worth trying on something else first, but it just peels right up once dried, so not much risk.

@Tom - just viewed a few recent pics and wow - it's a beauty. I kind of knew that it would be after seeing evidence of the time and dedication you were applying from day one. Awesome project that is as close to inspirational as they get.

My job may take me to your part of the world in 2014 so I would love to see it in the flesh and see you take it for a spirited lap of the Petit Le Mans track ;-)

                            Well Mr. Al.....

I am preparing thing to install the fuel tank at the moment. I took the tank and wiped it down with WD40 to break up the Cosmoline and dirt mixture. It's not exactly new looking, but once in the car it will be fine. Some of the line fittings are corroded so I need to get some new ones soon so I can get it the car and move on to installing the rest of the drivetrain (propshaft, rear diff, axles).

Speaking of propshafts, I took it out over the weekend in order to inspect it. The center bearing is in good nick as is the center u-joint. The end joints, once I disassembled them, showed signs of wear so I will be replacing them. New aero boots will be included in the mix for a minty looking propshaft.

Some pictures......all taken with my 41mp Nokia 1020. No more apologies for phone pics.

                            The shaft.

The joints showing just how dry the grease had become. The grease was caked inside and wasn't providing much lubrication.
The one at the front was the worst of the two due to constant baking from the cats.

                            The rear joint

Using a small chisel and hammer I tapped off the boot.

Removed the lock ring on the end and with a little help from the 3-jaw puller.....it's off.

I took the join apart to inspect it and had hoped that I could rebuild it but the wear marks were a little too deep for my taste. The outer shell below.

                            The inner.

                            So parts on order now.

Sorry but Tom, what is the toy with the small wheels in the back of the picture of the rear joint? It looks like fun!

That is an electric go-kart that I imported along with a bunch of Audi parts early last year. It is one of just a handful that the company produced before ceasing production. Not sure why they stopped making them, because it's pretty darn cool. A friend of mine in the Netherland is a scooter/motorcross parts guy and one of the vendors he uses sent him a pair for testing with his two children. I saw these two prototypes while at his house two years ago and thought it would be something my boys would like so I bought one.

Motorcycle style twist throttle and handbrake on the handlebars. Even has a spoiler on the rear which I didn't really understand why until I got the actual kart......it has a huge solar panel mounted on the top of the spoiler which helps extend the ride time. I'll post a pic later if you're interested.
