    • With the car in the air I took the chance to do a few things like replacing the corroded stops on the gearbox mounts. Added the covers, which had long since been discarded.

      1 x 8A0 399 291 B stops
      1 x 8A0399299C guard plate; left
      1 x 8A0399300B guard plate

The old stops......still good, but just ugly.

      Shiny new bits.

        • Finished refurbishing the rear half-shafts yesterday also. I bought new inner CVs for this but disassembled, cleaned, and reassembled the outers. New boots/clamps/seals for all. These are ready to go once finish up with the fuel tank.

            • RS2 Fuel Tank Fun

The weather was nice yesterday so I got a lot done.......

In preparation for the fuel tank install I pulled the subframe. I should have called a helper but I got eager and did this alone. I put the subframe across my shoulders and took the bolts out. No wonder my lower back hurts today.

Subframe out. Yes, that is my extra set of rare RS2 rear sway bar bushing being stored on the bar.

I was able to get the tank installed with a couple of the metal straps to hold it in. It was getting late so no pics yet. I would like to say that I officially hate the fuel tank part of this project because I am having difficulty finding some of the lines to make it on par with the rest of the car. That #$%@! fuel filter strap design is a crap, but I'm sure all of the UK based forum members knew that already. There is no way to get a corroded bolt out without destroying the strap. I fubar'd one and attacked the second strap on the spare tank I have an entirely new way.......still screwed it up. Oh well I can't hold the completion of this project up forever so the tank is in. I will swap it later once I find a suitable replacement.

              • Great to see you're finding time to work on the RS Tom

One thing, did you forget the boot clips on the inner end of the outer CV boots?

                  Cheers Alex!

The rear outers CVs don't have the smaller clamp.

That rod came out of my S4.

                  • do you move the car around with spare driveshafts in? if not the hubs will pull out of the bearings.

Yes, I have a spare set of CV's that I use to keep the bearings from being crushed.

There were none there when I took them apart and the new boot kit did not include them.

Search "Audi RS2 Antriebswelle hinten" using your favorite internet search engine and look at the pictures.

                              • My s4 doesn't have clamps where the boots meet the axles either.
