The thing with strokers is they dont' need as much boost and you'll find you'd only need around 1.5 bar in reality.

Time for an update on this, not done one in ages but I’ve not been slacking. On the inside the triple gauge pod is now in and fully functional.

From left to right we have analogue EGT, Innovate G4 AFR and boost. The digital unit underneath is also EGT and I think I prefer this so the analogue one is coming out to be replaced by fuel pressure. I also have another of the digital temp units that I’ll be fitting on top to use for coolant temp as I think the std temp gauge is cack.
On the engine one of the last things to do was fit the turbo coolant supply line that came with the 034 kit, but I wasn’t happy with the way it fitted so I got some fittings and 10mm copper line and made my own, this will be painted silver eventually. I think some insulation will be need too as it gets very close to the manifold.

Got a std front pulley ( when mine was balanced they machined off the notch for the crank locking tool) and fitted that and timed torqued everything up, after deciding that I didn’t need the washer between the pulley and the cam pulley I think that it would be better with it fitted. The belt is centred on the cam pulley but it’s at the front of the idler pulley and it hangs off the front of the water pump by about 3mm. Looks like this will be coming off again.
Also have a full set of refurb’d hubs and struts ready to go on. I’ve done these before but I didn’t put new wheel bearings in last time and I painted them with Smoothrite, which is coming off already. So this time I did them with POR15.

Also got a stud conversion kit from 034.

I also noticed what a rust trap the underside of the spring perch was so this time it’s been shot blasted, treated with POR15 metal ready, painted with POR15 paint, filled with Sikaflex and painted again. Try going rusty now!

Also got some std springs lowered by 15mm and powder coated. I only asked for them to be done silver and I got this!

They are almost chrome and look quite good, if a little bling.
Started to collect parts to make a 3” turbo back exhaust.

Not sure if I’m looking forward to doing this or not! I think I’m going to cheat a bit and use the Jetex backbox that T2andy has on his, this used 2.75” tubing so makes it a bit easier to go over the drive shaft

My TIG welding is coming along nicely too, more than good enough to make an exhaust anyway.

As soon as the weather warms up and I can stop using the car every day ( E55's are useless in the snow! ) it will be coming off the road and the engine will be going in. I'm going to stick my neck out now and say it be in and running for the summer

I have a friend with his own powder coating company and he does a lot of work for a spring company called Valley Springs. I gave them to him and he sorted it out, lowered by 15mm, blasted and re-coated.

Nice work as ever, Andy.
I've not driven my Limousine since the end of December, 1800kg, wide summer tyres and a slushbox make progress pretty scary even with quattro, so don't be to hard on the Benz.
I'm thinking of re-doing my wheel bearing housings too. I painted them with Hammerite a couple of years ago, and they're rusting again already.
Even though they haven't been used. Hammerite doesn't seem to key to rough metal.
POR-15 seems to do the trick. I wish Rob had put me on to it earlier. My subframes are also done with Hammerite, but being smooth and not too rusty, they seem to be ok so far.
BTW, is that a new coldside I see?SSComment

Yes, I forgot about that. I took the turbo back to Grant, who built it in the first place. I asked him what difference the bigger 0.7A/R coldside I had would make over a std size and he said not a lot. Plus I want to try and retain the RS2 airbox and I couldn't get a MAF to turbo hose with a 4" end so I got him to swap the coldside back to std.sigpic
