I think not 100% sure you will lose torque , I think mine is about 8 ish

    • Part throttle driveability is rubbish, progressive clutch engagement is almost impossible as the engine becomes so easy to stall.

      • part throttle driving is a PITA!, car can stall approaching junctions with rapid loss of revs and the same applies to take off as the flywheel does not retain inertia.

          • Just want to stick my 2p in, I am not a fan of lightened flywheels either. I prefer the torque inertia given by the heavier wheel.
With lighter flywheel the Rpm drops way faster

              • You must have mutant feet if you can comfortably heel & toe with the S2 pedal box
I am having to modify my accelerator pedal to make it easier.

                • I do have a lightened 7a flywheel on my rs2 (~7KG) It drives perfectly with this flywheel.

Not unless you drive in your socks, it works

Shoes aren't my kinda thing when driving

Be interested to see what you do with this as it is awkward in the s2.

I was thinking about how to change the pedals to make it easier.

Me too, this is still a work in progress

Going to shot blast and paint it once I'm happy with the shape and position.

                        • Love it Andy!

Luckily the s2 doesn't suffer from massively over-servo'd breaks like it's later cousins, but the pedal position is massively out. It makes the BMW a doddle to drive in comparison though, even if the brakes are less progressive and overly sensitive.

                          • The S2 is heading up to VRS later today for the latest round of mods:

                            Gearbox synchro's replaced
Front brakes sorted (maybe discs warped or calipers binding)
Billeted steel flywheel to replace the OEM dual-mass currently fitted
Aquamist kit for WMI (need to decide on separate tank or not)
7A cams and ABY pulley to replace ABY inlet / RS2 exhaust and vernier pulley currently fitted
Possible inlet change from RS2 airbox to cone filter if the airbox proves to be a restriction

                            Can't wait

                            • Some good plans there, but you wil almost certainly lose power with a cone filter.
Done power and temp measurements on the road of multiple cars, and the result is always the same, the powercurve gets visibly knocked down with the cone type filters.
The RS2 box is well designed and has very little restriction.

                              • Thanks, it sounds like this mod isn't really worth doing then and your findings meet with what several others have said.

How come the cone filter seems to cause less power though, surely at speed the flow is increased and there's minimal heat-soak with proper shielding in place?

I do like the RS2 airbox, it's just such a PITA to get into with the clips

My initial thought was it might be a restriction on the inlet, but if that's not the case then i'll happily keep it over a cone.
