Yeah. I was thinking an alloy tank would be a good way to go if you want to save a bit more weight. Although you can see by the amount of sound deadening, the actual tank may not weigh all that much.

Here's what the boot floor under the tank looks like, to give you an idea of what could go in there. The Coupé boot would be a lot more usable without the fuel tank!

Excuse the dirt. I don't think it's been cleaned under there for over 18 years.

That's quite an interesting shot, I wonder what the large blanking grommet is for.

Interesting. I wondered what that was for.

Also the fuel vapour expansion chamber weighs ~1.5kg. Apart from the float valve in the top, I can't see it serves any useful purpose when venting fuel vapours to the atmosphere.

The tank is pretty heavy, I'd say at least 20kg bone dry

More fuel system gubbins to remove... How did fuel tanks used to be vented? Were they vented at all

In the old days tanks were just vented straight to the atmosphere, usually from a high point on the tank, or through the filler neck. Check out the way bike tanks are vented.
So far I have kept the expansion tank because of the float valve in the top. But I suppose you don't really need that. If you don't mind fuel pissing out when your car ends up upside down.

Mr Error, you must be weak with your 20kg estimate.

Leakage could easily be prevented with a U bend and / or a ball valve. Got to be a neat and simple solution...

It could be as simple as pulling the float valve out of the top of the small tank and mounting that somewhere. Meaning another 1.5kg lost.

at this rate we'll be going for sticker badges and carbon fibre cup holders

S2 badges are metal. They have to go surely!

I've removed my mint original one's anyway as their quite tempting for a certain type of person to pilfer, replaced them with RS2 badges with the Porsche logo removed.

The car does look nice de-badged but it's hardly obvious so a little flash of red front and rear (or black in my case) is a small hint that it's a little more special than a 2.0E

Had a reasonably productive day, things looked like this this afternoon. I'm going to be refitting a lightened half carpet in the front once I'm 100% sure there are no water leaks from the door seals ect.
