I have reached the same conclusion! Get an early coupe and an early S4, get the radiators in the boot (like Wab) and run the AAN inlet. Should see better weight distribution and decent power potential. Simple... unfortunately space, energy and money are all things I don't have I do have a sunroof ABY though, hard life isn't it

Spooky - been mulling my options and numbers over the weekend and came to same conclusion about the sunroof...
I also started thinking about removing the ABS because of weight, but then with duties on the road as well as fun off it - I did wonder if it was worth the risk. I'll bet there would be some insurance hassles...
The ABS isn't that much of an issue and it does provide additional safety on the road, not that 225 wide top of the range tyres are renowned for their lack of grip It's the rears that lock up anyway . While we're discussing safety, I really feel the need for a traction control or ESP setup to make the car safer too

I'm caught in the wannabe purist trap - having to compromise things for the road makes all decisions harder as you are thinking about two very different applications. But then I come back to it just being a more 'fun' car on the road - noisier, lighter, better handling essentially so its still a road car really.
In saying all that - I drove for donkeys years before I had ABS.
I wondered, have you still got the rear wiper assembly? I bet there's a couple of kilos there.
I'm thinking about getting rid of it, but if you want to weigh it first I don't mind.
Project has made good progress of late. And I'm planning an update latter this weekend. I've slightly altered my original intentions of getting the car as light as possible. I can't practically get rid of the sunroof, so as this shell is not the perfect candidate I'm going to look out for another CQ or possibly S2 3B if cheap enough, obviously without a sunroof. This I intend to get acid dipped and start from scratch with.
With this project I'm still going for a very light weight approach, with my main aim to improve weight distribution as much as I can. This has meant me having a slight rethink, I'll save any more info for Sunday with some photos.
As for the rear wiper, the whole assembly weighs about 2kg's excluding the washer bottle and fluid.
Oh, thanks for asking

Cool, I thought it would, glad to hear its worth it. My currant ones still going to pretty light as well as hopefully being better balanced. I've finished the interior now so I'll stick some photos up on Sunday.

I've also got the lower chassis brace and rear strut brace pick-ups i welded in which i've not fitted the bars to yet, will do back to back test once i've had my alignments done and report back

What parts have you used for the rear strut brace mounts? I was thinking of using the front brace mounts off a scrap S2, should be fairly straight forward.
Anyway here's a bit of an update, not done anything today as I've been playing a Poker tournament all day.
I've decided to put the rear seats back in as they only takes minuets to whip out, plus without coil-overs to balance things out the rear ride height is ridiculous, even with the battery in the boot. So I'm still going for a light weight car but sorting out the weight distribution has become the priority. I want it to be basically hospitable inside so I've striped all the backing off an old carpet and fitted it in the front only, weighs less than 2kg. The floor in the back has been painted matt black mainly cause stripping the backing off carpet takes ages and is very very boring. Rear passengers should consider themselves lucky to have seats. The sill trims cover the unpainted areas, I've left them off for now as I'm going to subject it to some more rain testing, passed preliminary tests though.
