The tricky bit with the AAN IM is fitting the radiator
You'll need to fab some brackets to hold the 3B fuel rail down but otherwise it should be ok if you make a flexi line to the front Banjo or maybe bend the original.
I think I can squeeze the stock rad in at an angle with a slimline fan like some have done. If not Honda rads for civic/crx etc can be had in alloy for £70 as well. Or a fiesta rad ala nogsport.
Looking at this now, realising its less than an hour to pull the engine from here, might as well
It will let me cut out the 3B battery tray, fit the clutch, redo the fuel lines properly, swap in an ABY rack and give everything a clean/general tidy.
Time to get or borrow an engine stand.
Only thing I can think to do with the engine in the bay is set to TDC and crack the crank pulley. Anything else?
Thank you very much to Martin for the loan of an engine stand.
Intake port
Exhaust port (looks like oil leaking down the valve?)
Any suggestions on how to clean this lot up without getting it in the engine? Or just clean things when they are apart? I am now thinking I should have degreased the engine roughly when everything was intact
Crank bolt undid fine
The current plan is to whip the head off and have a look, deffo do valve stem seals, gaskets. Gasket match/remove flash but no port rework. Timing belt, lower pulley and waterpump. Coolant flange on back of engine (plastic one snapped).
Other things to do
check valve guide wear (exhaust guide are normally needing replaced I believe?)
Check bore wear
Pull the sump and clean? Might as well do rods at that point.
Valve cover and cam seals have leaked, I think this was when my catch tank froze, and its pressurized everything. Need to re do the breather setup properly.
Kind of leaning towards a quick head re fresh, and possibly just dropping the sump and popping in rods on the existing pistons/rings as long as they can be removed without chipping. (ghetto I know)
Why try and make the 3B rail work when you can bolt up the AAN rail and just pop a 3 Bar FPR in there instead of the 4 Bar that it comes with? The 3 Bar FPRs are cheap on Ebay and very easy to just pop in.
Also picked up a long allen key, not necessary for the intake manifold, but makes it so easy!
I did weld my own allen extension, but the allen key sheared just below the weld, and the break look very crystalline? I assume it was a cheapo allen key, or I restructured it by cooking it then quenching it when still hot?
Long shank carbide burr for the exhaust manifold/poss intake.
Still no car progress, did get some work done on the garage which should make working in the garage a lot better;
Rear wall is moved back 2 panels (1.2m). Doesn't sound much, but makes a huge difference to working space on the front/back of the car, and also another work area. I got a massive amount of help/time from my dad, and got taught/learned a few new skills along the way.
Also picked up a few things that were just right price/time for the future;
AAN fuel rail (thanks Alex)
Non V band coldside
Subframe bushes
Set of front and rear polybushed wishbones, going to clean, stitch weld and paint
Nice little box of upgrades there mate
Surprised the gunk did so well, when I used some a few years back it was less effective than fairy liquid
If you still need a coolant nipple I have a couple metal ones here, FOC for you mate
Panthero Coupé quattro 20vt
Indigo ABY coupé
