Funny you mention that. We actually tested 4 blocks in total, all had so much wear at the ring area on the TDC, which even when honed to 81.26mm they still left a small weak area. I didn't want to risk it, so went to 81.51. My own old block was out to 81.3x on all cylinders, but originally with 120k kms was nicely honed to 81.26.
That is mad, I can't remember the measurements off the top of my head but the 3B I am blueprinting with 195k on the OE bottom end, bores are still well within factory specs, only slightly ovalled. With align honing to fix the ovality they would still only be on bottom size.
Skirts are worn mind you, so I must use new pistons anyway.
Perhaps the 3B blocks are a superior material.

However, the measurements after 5000rpm where actually quite wavy as i was trying to keep the boost stable. So this is just a very preliminary thing, and still on mineral oil, so im not pushing too hard. I have also retarted the timing slightly out of precaution as i havent done any knock listening yet.
Looks promising to me! Hopefully it should get some nice results!
your cylinder head was ported/polished and upgraded with bigger intake/exhaust valves also?
and about mapping, the 10€ detcans phones that Marc sells...can be used without the laptop only for "listening" the engine? also without Vems of course... now i have a finnish HESTEC ECU...that came with the competition engine...and i bought the software..."winhestec" ...it seems very different to the Vemstune or Megatune ...
i only took a small look and it seems to be every maps in 3D
Through all this difficulties with economies(esp. greek!! haha), i must just be glad i managed to get this engine back online!
IF in the future 3-4 years i manage to get back home, start my own practice and £££ is not an issue, then yes, another project car will be likely in the lines of either a sporty B4 or a sport quattro replica. However, if ££ is not an issue, ill be keeping the rs2 as is!
anyhow, EV14 are now nicely mapped on the table up to 1bar. Had to adjust fueling settings quite a bit but its ok now.
Unfortunately i havent had the chance of getting the AC sorted, and i think ill just get a specialist to have a look, who knows what they are doing...
tried 1bar yesterday, and turbo is just waking up on that region!!
