    • Nice, with Touareg rear calipers? did you use your homemade handbrake caliper?

      • Well, just ordered the discs, so I'm not there yet. But yes, Touareg rears and DIY park calipers is the plan.

Make certain you build more than one set of brackets.

          • Yes. 350mm Solution is sold by some tuners in the states.
            But you need special discs.

            • Did new adapters with a smaller threaded hole for the lower bolt.

Got also a nice clutch kit for my future stroker project, couldn't resist... AP-Racing 7.25" twin disc clutch, Bling Factory steel flywheel, Tilton hydraulic release bearing with steel braided hoses and adapter plate for the 01E box. PnP on AAN setup.

              • Bling indeed, looks like a nice bit of kit! Looks like quite a work out for your left foot.

                • Nice progress Thuppu!!!
I did your previous rear brake upgrade to my car 310mm disc and i defenitly notice the difference, plus it looks way better.
In the spring i install triple plate clutch with 5.5kg flywheel. Driving with it ain't actually that bad. You will get used to it. I am using stock release bearing, so with hydraulic one you should have even better pedal feeling.

                  • Hi Risto. What trigger setup do you use with your flywheel? I was thinking of the Lupo 60-2 in the rear of the crank. But that isn't in any hurry, maybe next year or so..? Have to gather some other parts too before I start the stroker project.

I have pin in standard flywheel location. I am using standard sensors with VEMS.

                      • BTW, how do your rear DIY handbrake calipers work? I just don't see any moving parts on your pictures What's missing?

                        Comment

                        • All the moving parts still missing. Need to measure the distance where the cables are coming and how the calipers will be located on the disc before I can move on with the mechanism. Will assemble the front brakes and coilovers first before moving on with the rear. And I'm still not sure how they will work..?

                          • Works great. Autobahn approved. 270-100 etc.
but rear MUST be bigger than stock. Else the rear axle will be lifted to much.
I have no troubles with the rear when it's raining etc.

Bigger rear break with stock caliper would be enough. I'm sure.
When new hand brake mechanism than like BMW E30, Mercedes etc.
small ring under the disc where the handbrake is in. Tiny setup. No second caliper outside (don't like the looking of this setup).

                            • Have had the car standing in the garage for what..? Maybe a month or so... There was a massive boost leak somewhere that couldn't be located properly. When pressurising the intake it couldn't hold any pressure at all. In fact the car couldn't even boost over 1.7 bar. The motivation have been quite low, have only been doing the brakes and coils. But finally I did take out the IM to look what is the problem... You don't need soapwater and bubbles to find the leak here.
