I'm with Des, I've never understood the love affair people have with the GTX turbos when HTA actually perform the way they're supposed to.

Or that people would buy either when EFR turbos are available

I guess it depends if you want to keep the same manifold, oil lines, water lines and downpipe? KKK journal bearing turbos also seem to put up with a lot of abuse, fancy ones dont tolerate over spinning the same way.

I think a VEMS plug and play ecu is becoming a better and better solution as it can be mapped by any good tuner, and you can refit the stock ECU if required.

Anybody interested in buying a gtx3071r anytime soon, I've negotiated a discount which puts one delivered with a housing at around a grand.

So, 1500 miles in and a slight hiccup with this after the alternator belt disintegrated and took the cambelt with it

So, with no compression, I had to take the head off and got 10 bent inlet valves, a broken cam pulley and some massaged pistons for my troubles.

Head is off for repair and I've been sourcing a load of bits to do the repairs, sucking up any cash I had left for a new turbo

Anyway, I'll keep the thread up to date with the repairs...

So just waiting for a few bits and for the head to be inspected by JP. MOT runs out on 26th and then the tax at the end of the month, so pretty annoying timing, not that there's a good time for this sort of thing to happen...

Fitted my AnLe engine mounts earlier (they're beasts) and once all back together and working, it's subframe off to align the offset bushes and for the gearbox mounts. Finally, rear diff mounts and a full 4 wheel alignment to finish off what u had planned abut now anyway

So the cambelt is now changed over and the lower housing cleaned out. Thanks to DJones for coming to the rescue and luckily I got hold of an RS2 cambelt from quattro corner.

Used a firm called Genuine Autoparts to get all my OE parts, as my local TPS don't deal with the public and they were very good. Instant pricing on their website and was all shipped from Germany within a week.

Just waiting for the cylinder head to come back, many thanks to JP at JNL Racing for fitting me in and sorting out a few extra things for a reasonable cost; good to know it's done properly. The cams had damaged the top of the lifters when it all went clang, so that was sorted too.

Going to miss my end of the month deadline, so will have to SORN the car and sort an MOT next month, which is a real pain but having got a cold on Sunday and then worked in hail and sleet today, I think luck just wasn't on my side this week...

Well the rebuild costs were about the same as the turbo upgrade so going to have to wait and make do with a mere 360bhp...

Managed to make some progress today, despite man flu.

Exhaust manifold and turbo are on, as is the inlet manifold, water manifold, injectors and all new gaskets.

I missed the deadline for getting it MOTd so have had to SORN a car for the first time in 17 years' driving

Will hope to finish it soon, at least I've time to tweak a few things as I go, as I ran out of energy when doing the original build.

                                She's alive!!!

Not test driven the old girl yet but fired her today, first turn of the engine Been a long time waiting for that. Tappets were noisy until I got temp in to the oil but everything else sounds normal.

New mounts give a bit of vibration but aren't so bad.

Need to check my work on Thursday and then check her over before the MOT next week... Rear brakes and emissions are a concern so will send a few mins trying to get some grease on the handbrake levers, as ones a little sticky and fingers crossed the new lump is nice and clean
