It has crossed my mind too, there is just recently IIRC last year, a carbon fibre 3d printer, it produces something on a par with aluminium again IIRC, because it isn't 100% CF. I don't know if any one does it in the UK... but a quick google now brings up this page
Refurbing Audi RS2

I believe 3d printing will be as transformational to our everyday lives as the mobile phone.Saltinot and ksimmonds have access to the parts, perhaps others do as well...I'll stick a wanted ad up and see what happens.Comment

Still cheaper than Audi Trad prices.
BTW, getting stuff done in China is potentially an option if I can find a 3d printing firm.Comment

Really it all depends on the mark up charged by the guy with the printer. I've no idea how much something printed using the usual nylon thread costs.
As best I know when it comes to reproducing parts you use a 3d scanner and then print it.

No update this week apart from the brakes having been finished. The wheel alignment issue isn't due to suspension geometry so I'll be hunting down a wishbone from somewhere to see if that sorts the wheel alignment issue. If it doesn't then clearly something more serious is going on with the chassis.
Thought experiment: If I decided to forget the value of the vehicle to collectors (but kept the original parts for restoration later) and wanted to upgrade the car to 500bhp for road use, what parts would be needed in addition to those below?
Wagner Exhaust manifold
K26/27 ball bearing turbo
040 Bosch injectors
Bosch upgraded fuel pump
Uprated, forged con-rods
Uprated clutch (will keep single plate if possible, dual if necessary)
Uprated 6 caliper brakes (wtih big turbo brakes on the rear)
Milltek stainless exhaust
Would the stock crank, piston heads and transmission be ok?Comment

LOL. Careful now, it sounds like you could be getting infected with 'I5 power'itis'

Car will be ready to collect on Saturday. Discovered that the issue with the front wheel alignment isn't due to the suspension. So looks like I'll be taking it to a chassis jig this summer. There were a few other nasty surprises that made Dean question why the car had been given an MOT. I'm taking that matter up withthe local trading standards as the car was in a unsafe condition. Will update on the work over the weekend. Otherwise the car is in now in safe running order.Comment

So Dean says the following are complete:
New brake disks and pads
New cast front suspension wishbones and tightening subframe bolts (!!!)
New front divers side CV joint
All wiper related issues (new front motor and rear relay)
All electrical issues sorted (various non functional buttons and sockets)
Reversing lamp now works (was a fiddly job)
Not done:
A/C - compressor has probably been siezed for some time and de gassed. He doesn't deal with old R12 (CFC based) systems.
Fuel lines - ran out of time, lower priority
Headlight washers - suspects the pump motor needs replacing.
Front driver's side wheel alignment - car needs sorting on a jig.
Ceiling light switch - I haven't been able to find a replacement part yet.
Replacement steering cowling
Are any of the above parts unique to the RS2 or are they shared with the standard 80?
I also need to source a complete under tray...322 euro from Audi Trad...and brake air ducts.
After three months, I finally get the car back!Last edited by ColonialNomad; 12 June 2015, 14:36.Comment

My RS2 1995 has a non cfc air-con system ie HFC-134a. IIRC, because it was something the garage checked when I had the system refurbed. Best I can google is that in the USA all cars from 1995 had to have HFC-134a, and some cars had it from 1992.
Someone may know more?Comment

Were RS2's imported into the US...?My RS2 1995 has a non cfc air-con system ie HFC-134a. IIRC, because it was something the garage checked when I had the system refurbed. Best I can google is that in the USA all cars from 1995 had to have HFC-134a, and some cars had it from 1992.

Would appreciate if someone could shine some light on what might be involved in a conversion though. I need to get the A/C vacuum tested as well.Comment
