0w-30s are generally good oils, but can be a bit thin for use in modified carsUse the code S2F and get 10% Club Discount

hello oilman, i have a gear oil question, just wondered what you would recommend for use in a standard Audi S2 gearbox? its just been rebuilt. it'll mostly be used for normal driving but occasional blasts at santa pod.. i've been told that the redline heavy shock gear oil may suit it, is 75w/80 the viscosity i should be looking for?
the guy that rebuilt it mentioned that whatever oil is used it must be a hypoid
appreciate any advice you can give.

Dont bother with Redline Heavy Shock, its too thick for your box. comes in around 75w-140. As a good quality choice thats well proven you cannot go wrong with the Fuchs Titan Sintofluid 75w-80 here http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-981-fuch...ion-fluid.aspx

You need a 75w-80 or 70w-80. Look for the best you can find, Redline MTL, Amsoil MTF are the best ones, but I have no idea what you have over there.Use the code S2F and get 10% Club Discount

I'd say you're both using the correct grade of oil, and the ones you mentioned are ok, just not sure if there is any difference between the European and NZ versions. With the mileages on the cars, using some oil can be expected. How much are you using? a litre per 1000km is okay according to Audi, if I remember correctlyUse the code S2F and get 10% Club Discount

Hi Alessio
Both of those are too thick, I would go for a 5w-40 for normal use or a 10w-50 if it's used on the track a lot or heavily modified

Out of those, the best ones are the Silkolene Pro S, Millers CFS, Motul 300V, Redline and Gulf Competition. They are all really good oils and up to dealing with the harsh conditions of trackdays.
