Unfortunately mine is one of the unlucky ones which does show up on the dealership diagnostics....... as pointed out at my yearly service.
Just to be safe, the insurance company has been made aware & have charged me an extra 25%...... but with a bit of haggling they knocked off the £25 admin charge
Just thought others (who have been naughty and not told their insurers) might like to know the cost.

This is theoretically not possible, unless Paul messed with it???

This happens sometimes on some chip upgrades. There must be different firmware versions on the uC which cause this error to come up on some ECUs and not others.
For the record - the dealership diagnostic equipment does not flash red lights, let off a siren and printout a nasty 'this ECU has been modified' message... It simply raises an ambiguous fault code which says there is an ECU fault. Right PITA I know after all this time, but the fault code alone does not mean the ECU is chipped.
It is related to one of two things - most likely related to the coding using peoples VINs that I burn into the chips for security reasons.
As always - for anyone that has this niggle - I will fix it for free when I have fully resolved the issue. It seems to affect immo cars mostly, so it will be a few weeks until I can resolve it properly.
Well I found the barnacle. It took a few tests to confirm everything... but it is nothing to do with my security tweak in the chips. Its something else entirely which turned out to be more trivial than I thought. Its related to checksums in the turbo chips and it absolutely doesn't affect running or performance.
A fix will be in place very soon and I can do free upgrades for everyone that needs it / wants it - not all ABY homefry users are affected as this little error crept into the stream when I was making recent revisions. It is applicable to both IMMO and normal types of ECU and I'm more annoyed than all of you that I didn't spot this earlier but to be honest I'd stopped looking for fault codes after a while on my car with chip developments so thats why I missed this one on an otherwise perfectly good set of chips.
I've just had the ECU re-map. It's fantastic - highly recomended. It gives the car just what it needs for all that weight - it doesn't feel as heavy anymore. The power comes in at 2K and flies all the way up to the red line. Huge thanks to Paul/Mihnea. So glad I've found this forum - so much knowledge and great ideas. I thought the S2 was just about perfect before - but everything has got so much better. I was worried about how much money I was going to spend on upgrading it - this will keep me happy for a long time whilst the credit card recovers.
Paul
Paul - glad you like the new software. Those chips are mine, but some beer credit has to go to Mihnea for advising the checksum algorithms which keep the diagnostics happy !
just following this thread all the way through - it is quite long now- so Paul's is the ABY home fries - Minhea developed the RS2 mod? correct?? And great fast turnaround too - meant I was only without my car over the weekend. Cheers

Well just before i bought the car,Al had Paul rechipped the ECU so hopefully this wont occur at the next service!
Tell the S3 dude to contact me and you'll see afterwards The S3 has a very nice motor and with a good exhaust, it can put out easily 275HP and they really kick serious ***, one of the S3s I've done kicks S2's *** with no problem!

Yeah - so Jamo remove about 200kg of weight from your 280bhp S2 (including all that ICE) and you'll be kicking the *** off Mihnea's chipped S3's as well
Never forget how heavy an S2 is - in stock trim the power:weight ratio only just breaks the useful 100bhp per ton factor.
