Mustang dynos are pretty well known for reading low, and I used a 0.8 coefficient.
That said, I fully agree that the dyno is a tuning tool.
For me this turbo does almost RS2 power with stock turbo spool, this is all that is important. How far you can push it depends on each individual car...
Speaking from my own experience, and my own car. I had an RS2 turbo fitted with 034 rs2 software and rs2 replica injectors. I changed ONLY THE TURBO, INJECTORS, and ENGINE MANAGEMENT, all other factors stayed the same (intercooler, exhaust manifold, downpipe, exhaust, coils, ect). It was a night and day difference in power. Much quicker to spool, and much more torque. Again as stated dyno results are not truely comparable across the board, as mentioned, my readings on a different dyno could have been much lower, but in the same regard they could have been much higher had i dyno'd on a different dyno at sea level with a different dyno. The only true measure of this turbo vs rs2 would be same car same day same dyno.
Again as i stated before you could also measure it compared to other cars that dyno'd that day. like the 3 b7 RS4s that dynod and all came within about 15hp of each other and all had varied levels of modifications. My car put down more whp the one that was "100%" stock, was 1 whp shy of beating the one with a fresh carbon cleaning and open exhaust, and about 12 whp shy of the one with a fresh clean, open exhaust and a ported and de-flapped intake manifold. I beat all of them on torque by over 100 WTQ. I would say that for what it is, and the price you can get them, it is a VERY capable turbo.
Even though you only changed the turbo injectors and engine management, this is not a very good
comparison as the the 034 RS2 chips are a bit lame, a friend of mine had them on his car and after 6 months had the car mapped properly (no other changes ) and the difference was also night and day.
It would be good to compare this turbo properly mapped to an RS2 turbo properly mapped and see the dyno comparison as well.
I must say though it does sound good and for the money it seems a good choice, if I didn't already have an RS2 turbo I would probably go for one of these.
They're just probably slightly shorter legged horses.
Dyno is a good device for measuring difference during tuning. For exact power figures... well umh.
That 360 car might show 320 in some other dyno. Which one is correct? Probably neighter.
Suppose we know your weight is 100 kilos. One day we are out on the playground and you ask me what I weigh. I tell you I don't know, as no scale is present. I do spot a perfectly balanced teeter totter on the play ground. We get on and the teeter is perfectly balanced. What can we say about my weight?
Three rs4s dynoed the same day, and this car was clumped in the middle of them for whp. What does that say about the output of the Volvo turbo?

Well that really depends as you don't know the drive train losses of an RS4 compared to an S2.
For instance if you say an RS4 has 450hp in Audi's book and on this dyno they all read X amount less then you take X from your figure and thus you have your HP. The trouble with this is the first sentence, the losses in different cars will be different and although the RS4's is newer they tend to have more loss than a typical S2 due to much wider tires and being heavier so your calculation could be way off. Of course your old S2 drive train could be ****ed and wasting loads of power (more than a typical RS4) and thus you could be making more power than you think ! I know its a ball park figure but you shouldn't mix apples with oranges to get the average weight of an apple or orange.
Comparing the pantera that ran the same day to daves s2 would be like comparing apples to oranges. Comparing two cars that are running the same basic drivetrain minus the rear diff, with very similar tire widths (245s vs 255s) would be like comparing two different breeds of apples. There are obviously differences, but the general genetics is the same. I do think audi overrated the rs4, but this dyno shows a consistent 25% drivetrain on awd vehicles inside and outside the marquee, at these relatively low power levels. 300hp STIs and evos make 225whp, 996 turbos make around 320 stock and 365 chipped, Wrx rated at 230 make 170.... to say that daves only had a 20% loss would be the externality. Still, at 20%, it made rs2 levels of power...
And weight, on a load based chassis dyno? That only applies if you are accelerating. Place 2k pounds on top of an engine on an engine dyno and see if that affects the output of the motor.
What's the world coming to if you can't compare the cars that dynoed the same day? That's about as good as it gets with the average citizen resources!
