  • I’ve been on another parts trip!

Sine my last trip to see Charlie (card crash) I’ve had this little devil on my shoulder repeatedly telling me to buy those RS2 seats. Well, I finally gave in and now I have something really special to fit!

    Before

    Cleaned

Nivia treatment (thanks for the tip)

    Looking great

I have a small hole to repair. Any tips?

Then a nice parcel arrived from HEL

They look really well made. I will fit them tonight.

    And another from MGHIVE

This is to do the oil cooler conversion I found on the forum. (Sorry Kit, the one I got from you fell apart!)

Oh well, it was pretty bloody grotty being nearly 30 years old, but at least I only charged you for the pipes which you should be able to resell....

Nice pick up on the Recaro's! I have the bent set out the car Charlie had his mishap in, their going to take some serious fixing but it'll be worth the time and effort for a set of lovely seats, their probably going to be fitted to my 100 Avant as my B3 project is all about weight saving and light weight they are not. Interesting trick with the Niva hand cream, looks to work very well, does it soften the leather at all?

If I'd known you'd been calling around I'd have given you that non air-con glove box FOC, I'll put it by for you though.

                  pipes!
The Nivea seems to soak in and really renovated the leather. Yes, makes it soft and less likely to crack. It was a tip from a member on here, I think from Portugal?

I know you weren't having a go mate, I'm just really fussy when it comes to selling parts and like make sure folk on here are well looked after.

Anyway what you've gone for is a far superior set up!

Every update of this project impresses me, it's great to see someone rescuing a car that many people wouldn't have had the knowledge, patience or funds to restore to the high standard your achieving.

It's kind like my S2 Coupe which although it drove when I picked the car up it could be best described as a collection of nice parts with an MOT. Aside from the engine and box I had to take the whole thing apart again and put right 101 bodges/faults and that was just to get it in satisfactory mechanical condition. The body still left much to be desired, as I said when you visited, sad as it was crashing it was kinda of God send. It would have needed at least four whole days of professional body work sorting the various bits of rot and twisted chassis legs before even thinking about priming it and that's being highly conservative! The only sad thing being it was an exceptionally early car, registered November 1990, so one of the very first on UK roads which would have justified the restoration work. Still the money I got from the payout and parts has all gone on tools, nice components for my RS2 and three other quattros and I still have tons left to sell now two years latter and everything I need to convert my B3 into a stealth S2 Saloon. If you have dig around you should find my somewhat epic project thread for the car, I owned it for ten years but only drove it for five as for a good while I was always saving something or another.

Anyway, please excuse the random tangent, I like the look of the results of that Niva trick and I'm going to give a whirl on my Corrado's leather which is somewhat dry. I normally use The Furniture Clinic products which work well but are fairly expensive certainly a lot more than a pot of hand cream!

Are you going to be going along to ADI? As long the weather forecast is half decent I'm going even if I have to take my B3 80 as I'd really like to see some old faces again as well as some new, hopefully my 100 Avant will be on the road by then though, I could get the RS2 MOT ready in a day but it's so good underneath I simply won't take it out in the wet and as I live right next to the main council depot for Powys when they start gritting the network the road through the village is like a salty gravel track which has already caused untold damage to my Corrado which i used all year round for a couple of seasons.

                      • I solved the handbrake issue.
I tried S4 cables and they were a good fit at the caliper end but not at the handbrake end. The diameter of the end is too big to fit in the retainer hole.
                        So......
I modified this plate from the S2 caliper so that it would take the S4 spring.
Now all works good with the S2 cables.

I had to enlarge the spring hole slightly and also shave a small bit off where it contacts with the stop.

                        • Today I put the heater box in.
I had bought a box off eBay. Half of the parts were missing. I bought the rest from Cardcrash. His was a bit mangled after the accident but I was able to make one good box from two.

I took everything apart and replaced the foam where necessary. The fan was cleaned using a soft paint brush.

I bought a new heater matrix from Autodoc. Guess what? It doesn’t fit.
The outlet pipes are straight and won’t go into the bulkhead. I had to reuse the one I have. It looks good. No sign of leaking or damage.

                          All fitted together again.

                          And fitted into the car.

My engine refit has been delayed. Hopefully next week.

                            • I’ve been testing out some plastic trim paint.

                              And after

                              Not too bad.

I ordered black cloth to do the headliner today. Started the not so pleasant job of removing all the trims and roof panel. Not much fun taking things off.

How do the front seatbelt covers come off? It seems that the links to the headline replacement sticky’s are no longer valid?
