That's a first for me too, there's absolutely no need to cable tie chips to their sockets.

Not unusual if the ECU has been socketed, I never bother though and I’ve never had a chip fall out yet

Yes Steve, know your pain as I did the Avant on axle stands. That's the main reason I bought the lift.
    Luckily no holes (yet)

If you have easy access to it with your lift - Get it all off! I am doing this in phases on my back under the car and wish id done it in one go now as every time i get down to doing the next bit, i find trouble.

This was a blanking plug under the apparently intact looking rubber underseal.

I’ve been putting this job off as it’s my least favourite.

The Audi underseal is very good at hiding rust.
You think all is good until you remove some and follow the rust up the seam.
It’s going to take me a couple of days at least to do just the cleaning.

It does a good job. I now only use lessmann (German made) wheels as they last really well.

    Prop shaft is looking rusty.

So set about it with my favourite wire wheel

    Some 30
Minutes later we have a rust free prop.

I have a new centre support to fit as the original has seen better days. I also have a new cv for the rear joint as it has lots of play. The front joint is fine and will just get cleaned out and new grease. It will get painted as well. I’ve just coated it with Bilt converter for now.

    Proper air

I have 13cfm 200L tank set up. Not enough for blasting but fine for spraying which is nice but i think if I could, i would be doing a lot more blasting than spraying!
