    • I found a calculator and calculated the following:

      the CR should be 8.51:1

with the 0.5 more - 0.1 (deck skimmed) then we have approx 8.3:1

The head is going to be skimmed also min. 0.1 then we go to 8.35:1

Since i am going to run big boost :-p i think i can live with this CR!

OK, i will run 2,5 bar to compensate that! :-p

The machine shop did it wrong and i will have a word with them but it is not going to bother me much. I was from the beginning betwwen 8:1 and 8.5:1....now they gave me the middle!

              Mark had 8:1 ?

              • Today i removed the head and block of my old engine to see what caused the higher oil fumes in the catchtank and bad running of cyl 3!

I found a blown head gasket and these defects (as if something etched the metal) on the head and piston top (same side). Is this caused from detonation? I mean the gasket and then due to higher heat (gasses from cyl 4->5) i had detonation or he other way round?

                pls comment:

                  YES !

do you run on E85? maybe running lean on 1 cyl?

Look excactly the same as my last s2 engine, the JE`s were fried and the squish area in the head fooked like this.

This was on original motronic. with custom mapping.

                  • the question is: detonation caused the gasket to blow or the blown gasket caused detonation? When i removed the gasket there was also tiny cracks between the other cylinders! The engine has 210.000 (i believe)!

car runed on gasoline. the defects are on cyl 3 only!

                    • Engine knock caused this damage to headgasket and engine, not the other way round.
Perhaps injector #3 was faulty, the head chamber & exhaust valves aren't brownish like the others but more black and scorned, and the right # 3 exhaust valve seems like it's bent/not closing on the valve seat.

                      • but if the injector was faulty then shouldn't there be a whitish color and not black? can it be that the valves dint open right due to bad tappet and that caused the temps to rise-> cause detonation-> blown gasket?

                        • By further inspection of the gasket i noticed that the gasket had small crack between all cylinder that lead me to believe that due to the nature of it and the years of function (15 years old and at least 10 years chipped rs2 setup and then Holset) the gasket died and the rest is history!

                          • Should I make a spacer for the oil pickup pipe because of the girdle or is it not so crousial? Mark or Doug did one but his girdle was 10mm. Mine is 6mm and I am not going to use the extra pan and gasket on the sump so the difference o stock rs2 should be at about 3 mm!

                            • Today I tried to put the new engine in and it was a PITA!! I had a crane to hold the engine but something didn't let the engine and gearbox come together! They had approx 1.5cm to come! Disk seems centered according to the allignment tool! Any ideas?

Together win this I pressed the clutch pedal and fuid came out from the front! If I push it simply in again is it ok? Should I check something there or should I only bleed the clutch when finally the engine goes in?

                              • You need to bleed the clutch when the engine is in, if you press the peddle when there is no clutch arm for it to press, the piston will pop out the end. I'm not sure that you can just push it back in if you've done this.
